The Vice President of Underpayment Strategic Solutions is a senior subject matter leader responsible for expanding R1’s Hospital Underpayment Solutions through deep expertise in underpayment recovery, payer behavior, and revenue integrity strategy. This role serves as the executive authority on underpayments—partnering with sales, product, operations, and clients to deliver measurable financial outcomes and drive sustainable revenue growth.
While accountable for quota attainment, success in this role is driven by credibility and insight. The VP leads complex, enterprise-level pursuits by shaping solution strategy, guiding executive conversations, and translating operational underpayment challenges into data-backed value propositions. This leader works closely with regional sales teams, product, marketing, operations, and client delivery to ensure underpayment engagements are well-designed, executable, and outcome-driven.
Every day in this role you will:
- Serve as executive subject matter expert for R1’s Underpayment Solutions, advising on underpayment identification, recovery strategies, and payer dynamics
- Own revenue growth for the underpayments portfolio through expert-led solution positioning and executive engagement
- Lead discovery and solution design for complex underpayment pursuits, acting as the specialist throughout the sales cycle
- Partner with Sales Leadership to define pursuit strategy, executive engagement plans, and differentiated win themes
- Develop client-specific business cases and ROI models using performance data and analytics capabilities
- Collaborate with Product and Operations to align solution strategy, delivery expectations, and roadmap priorities
- Enable and mentor sales and client-facing teams on underpayment strategy and solution positioning
- Represent R1 as an underpayments thought leader through industry forums, conferences, and thought leadership efforts
To succeed in this role, you must have:
- Extensive healthcare revenue cycle experience with deep specialization in underpayments, payer variance, third-party liability, and coverage detection
- Proven ability to advise CFOs and senior revenue cycle leaders on underpayment risk and recovery strategy
- Experience supporting complex, consultative enterprise solutions where subject matter expertise was critical to success
- Strong analytical and financial acumen, including ROI and business case development
- Executive presence with the ability to translate complex operational concepts into clear, compelling value narratives
- Familiarity with major EHR and RCM platforms
- Prior experience in growth-oriented or quota-bearing roles preferred
