Job Announcement:

Vice President of People

Amid clinical workforce shortages, rising healthcare costs and ongoing concerns about inequity, IMPaCT unlocks the power of the grassroots community health workforce.

Here at IMPaCT Care, we get out of bed every day to remake the American health workforce. We find, train and enable Community Health Workers: caring people who keep their communities healthy. We have built the largest and most scientifically-proven Community Health Worker platform in the country, used across 20 states by 50 organizations like Kaiser Permanente, the Veterans Affairs Administration and United Way. Across multiple randomized controlled trials IMPaCT has achieved outcomes frequently believed to be out of reach, including $2,500 annual savings per patient, improved mental health and a Net Promoter Score of 94. We’re making waves: on CNN, in WaPo, at the Fed…there is even a new Medicare billing code for Community Health Workers that is modeled after IMPaCT.

We’re changing the game, but also know the importance of enjoying the journey. That’s why we have made sure that IMPaCT Care is the place to be! We provide competitive compensation and equity grants, comprehensive benefits and plenty of opportunities for team-building and fun. Plus you get to work from home.

Who you are:

You are an experienced People leader who has worked in healthcare startups, preferably with a remote workforce. You build automated, airtight, auditable systems rather than creating policies that live on a shelf. You find amazing talent by working backwards from the problem you are solving. You are the ultimate bar raiser who works with hiring managers to ensure IMPaCT only hires exceptional talent. You have excellent judgement and know when to invoke legal etc. for a thorny issue. You love to be hands-on building one day and immersed in strategic discussions with executive leadership the next.

What you’ll do:

  • Help lay the infrastructure (HRIS, handbooks, onboarding, performance management) to support rapid headcount growth over the next five years.
  • Turn HR processes (e.g., hiring, onboarding, performance reviews) into auditable scalable systems, each with their own KPIs.
  • Team with hiring managers to quickly source and screen amazing new hires (see this HBR article authored by our Founder/CEO, Dr. Kangovi).
  • Help to ensure that IMPaCT culture can be scaled (i.e. through rituals like a company retreat) as we rapidly grow.
  • Work with supervisors to manage a rapidly growing workforce, which includes a mix of corporate employees and frontline CHWs working in homes and communities.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years experience in People Ops/HR. Preferably in a startup, early stage company environment (Pre-Seed through Series B).
  • Experience leading People Ops for a company that employs a front-line, home-based workforce
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Recent experience and comfort with being an individual contributor. You have a “roll up your sleeves” attitude and no project or task is too big or small for you.
  • Experience in healthcare is a plus.
  • Experience with mission-driven organizations is a plus.

One of our core values is to create a diverse workplace that welcomes and values each team member’s unique perspective, background, and ideas. We are committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
