The Vice President of Health Plan Sales is accountable for overseeing a seasoned sales team dedicated to fostering business expansion within our existing Health Plan portfolio. This will be achieved through proficient prospecting, effective relationship management, and collaborative efforts across functional areas. The position requires strong leadership skills, strategic foresight, and a demonstrated capacity to cultivate and sustain essential partnerships with health plan clients, employer groups, brokers, and consultants. The ideal candidate will possess extensive sales leadership experience in Optum Rx or comparable pharmacy benefit management organizations and/or consulting firms.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for a team of up to 10 sales executives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and achievement of sales quotas and growth objectives
- Drive new business revenue expansion, from existing health plans of new clients, while maintaining full compliance with contractual obligations
- Drive renewal revenue retention of existing health plan clients, helping them maintain the clients they service in their book of business presently
- Champion client experience excellence, actively working to sustain and improve Net Promoter Scores (NPS)
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members, fostering engagement, accountability, and high performance across the team
- Identify and implement innovative market strategies to accelerate growth for existing health plan clients, while fulfilling contractual requirements
- Sales Readiness by demonstrating proficiency in sales processes to ensure the team maintains a constant state of sales readiness and effectiveness
- Maintain consultant relationships by meeting and building relationships with brokers and consultants associated with health plan clients. Establish and maintain solid working partnerships with distribution channel partners
- Strategic finalist support to facilitate finalist meetings including team coordination, strategy development, presentation preparation, and all follow-up communications post finalist meetings
- Contract execution to oversee and manage the process to ensure timely and accurate contract execution
- Communicate with clarity and influence across diverse audiences and organizational levels, leveraging strong presentation and negotiation skills
- Build and strengthen executive-level relationships, including C-suite engagement, to drive strategic partnerships and long-term growth
- Cross-functional collaboration with sales peers and functional teams within Optum Rx to maximize business outcomes
- Maintain a strong client presence, dedicating approximately 50-70% of time to in-market engagement and relationship development
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven sales leader with demonstrated success in managing and scaling high-performing sales organizations; current Optum Rx sales team manager highly preferred, though exceptional external candidates will be considered
- Strategic and results-driven leader with the ability to set vision, influence enterprise priorities, and deliver growth in highly competitive health plan markets
- Exceptional people manager skilled in coaching, talent development, and fostering a culture of accountability and engagement across diverse teams
- Expert at navigating complex, matrixed environments, building cross-functional alignment, and driving enterprise-level initiatives that impact revenue and client satisfaction
- Solid executive presence and communication skills, capable of influencing C-suite stakeholders and representing the organization at the highest levels

Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in healthcare, insurance, or related industries such as pharmacy benefit management (PBM), consulting, and/or managed care
- 5+ years of experience in Employer Group sales and leadership with success in driving growth and revenue
- 5+ years of people leadership experience, including proven ability to recruit, hire, develop, and retain high-performing teams
- Experience building and managing strategic client relationships and leading complex sales initiatives
- Experience influencing senior executives and C-suite stakeholders within large, matrixed organizations to drive strategic outcomes
- Experience leading regional or national teams, with accountability for performance across multiple markets
- Proven track record of consistently achieving or exceeding revenue and sales goals in highly competitive environments
- Deep understanding of complex sales cycles, solution development, and RFP processes, with the ability to remove barriers and accelerate deal closure
- Ability to travel up to 50%
