Nexstar Media Group, Inc., the nation’s largest television owner/operator group is seeking a Vice President, Broadcast Hub Services. This role reports directly to the Executive Vice President, Operations. The Vice President of Broadcast Hub Services is a senior operational and strategic leader responsible for managing Nexstar Media Group’s Master Control Hubs—the operational backbone of the nation’s largest local broadcast company. This executive oversees large‑scale technical operations, ensures regulatory compliance, directs a national team, and guides strategic investments that advance Nexstar’s broadcast and transmission capabilities across five time zones.
This role requires deep operational expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex, fast‑paced, 24/7 broadcast environments. The Vice President will champion operational excellence, technology innovation, and strong vendor partnerships to ensure reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement across all Hub Services, including six designated Hub locations and managing our relationship with Encompass Digital Media.
This position will be based at one of our Hub locations: Dallas, Indianapolis, Denver, Springfield (Massachusetts), or Spartanburg (South Carolina).
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Manage Master Control Operations supporting Nexstar Media Group’s extensive portfolio of local broadcast stations, multicast networks, NewsNation as well as The CW Network.
- Provide oversight and strategic direction to ensure all FCC regulations and broadcast standards are consistently met.
- Support 24/7 operations across five time zones, remaining available as needed for urgent or time‑sensitive issues.
- Maintain strong relationships with key vendors to secure favorable pricing, reliable support, and long-term partnership value.
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a staff of more than 330 employees, including senior-level managers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Approve all HR-related transactions within Broadcast Hub Services, including hiring, performance management, and staffing changes.
- Provide input on labor relations matters as needed.
Financial & Capital Management
- Plan and manage the consolidated operational expense budget for Broadcast Hub Services, ensuring alignment with company financial goals.
- Plan and manage the consolidated capital expense budget for Hub Services.
- Approve all Hub Services purchases, invoices, and capital expenditure requests.
- Provide guidance to station chief engineers on capital projects related to master control operations.
Cross-Functional & External Collaboration
- Consult with Regional Vice Presidents and Station General Managers regarding initiatives requiring Hub Services support.
- Manage and maintain Nexstar’s business relationship with Encompass Digital Media.
- Provide oversight to the CW Network technical team on master control operations, affiliate technologies, and transmission.
- Provide oversight to NewsNation technical teams on master control and affiliate technologies and transmission.
- Provide oversight to Multicast Networks technical teams on master control and affiliate technologies and transmission.
Technology & Innovation
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and best practices that enhance broadcast operations.
- Drive innovation that improves quality, reliability, efficiency, and scalability across Master Control Hubs.
- Ensure the organization remains at the forefront of evolving broadcast and transmission technologies.
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel extensively and on short notice to support station and network needs, vendor engagements, or operational priorities.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in broadcast operations, master control management, or related technical leadership roles.
- Proven experience leading large teams and complex, multi-site operations.
- Strong knowledge of FCC regulations, broadcast technology, and transmission workflows, as well as current ATSC transmission standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-million-dollar operational and capital budgets.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to thrive in high‑pressure, deadline-driven, 24/7 operational environments.
- Experience guiding, directing, and motivating staff, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
- Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
- Experience engaging and collaborating with organizational senior leaders and multiple teams with distinct needs, across an organization.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent written and oral skills
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Proficiency with computers and new forms of technology
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
