We are seeking a talented individual to join the CIO team at Mercer. This role will be based in Boston, Scottsdale, Los Angeles, Denver, Atlanta or Washington D.C. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

In this position you will have the opportunity to work as part of our Values-Aligned & Sustainable Investments (VA/SI) team within the Office of the CIO, serving Mercer’s large discretionary and advisory institutional client base. The senior associate investment professional will support best in class VA/SA services to clients.  The role supports the VA/SI leadership across client strategy, asset allocation, portfolio construction and implementation for advisory or outsourced fiduciary implementation.

We will count on you to:

  • Work in partnership with our VA/SI team, asset class and segment portfolio management teams to support the design for  model and custom VA/SI portfolios aligned with client objectives
  • Work on VA/SI client engagement and solutions delivery across our continuum from governance framework to baseline analytics to portfolio design/implementation.
  • Help to synthesize complex data analytics into a client-ready, accurate, and concise narrative with key takeaways and actionable next steps
  • Quickly develop expertise in our data analytics platform and practices, while applying critical thinking to the findings and deliverables for clients
  • Work with our senior leadership team to support collaboration across various client profiles to provide the latest market developments/services to clients.
  • Develop credibility as a subject matter expert for VA/SI solutions (from data analytics to investments to reporting) and, over time, present our capabilities and expertise both internally and externally
  • Be viewed as a trusted resource across broader platform with the ability to actively participate in client meetings and manage client deliverables with minimal assistance and oversight
  • Apply your skills with the autonomy to manage a client project and the ability to contribute to decision-making governance
  • Intentionally foster strong connections within the broader investment ecosystem
  • Engage with colleagues and executives in ways that demonstrate a high degree of professional maturity, etiquette and emotional intelligence

What you need to have:

  • BA/BS degree in finance, economics, or other business-related areas
  • 4+ years  of experience within institutional investing
  • Experience designing and delivering client presentations and proposals in ways that are visually engaging yet polished and concise
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and produce client ready materials with minimal rework
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision makers with thoughtful presentations
  • Experience with portfolio design, construction and implementation or asset class manager research
  • High level understanding of relative risk/return dynamics in institutional portfolios
  • High level understanding of values-aligned investing topics/themes
  • Demonstrated ability to learn on the job quickly and manage time efficiently

  • Experience in presenting complex investment topics to client Committees, Boards, C-Suite
  • Experience in VA/SI investing on behalf of institutional clients, particularly US endowments and foundations
  • Experience investing in Alternatives asset classes, including private equity and private real assets
  • Progress towards a CFA or CAIA designation

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $88,000 to $176,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
