The UX/UI Designer is responsible for leading end-to-end, user-centered design for healthcare SaaS applications, translating complex clinical and administrative workflows into intuitive, accessible experiences. This role partners closely with Product and Engineering to define and deliver roadmap-ready experiences, and contributes to cross-product consistency through design systems. The UX/UI Designer facilitates research and validation, communicates design rationale to product and technical audiences, and supports team growth through collaboration, critique, and knowledge sharing to elevate design quality and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
User-Centered Design & Research
- Plan and lead discovery (interviews, workflow observations, surveys) and usability testing; define research goals, scripts, and success criteria
- Apply systems thinking and empathy-driven design to optimize complex healthcare workflows across roles, channels, and devices
- Synthesize qualitative and quantitative insights into experience principles, prioritized opportunities, and measurable design recommendations
Prototyping & Interaction Design
- Create concepts, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes (e.g., AI tools, Figma) to explore solutions, de-risk decisions, and accelerate delivery
- Define user journeys, information architecture, and interaction patterns that support clinical and administrative tasks and reduce cognitive load
- Lead critiques and iterate designs using stakeholder feedback, accessibility reviews, and usability findings; document decisions and tradeoffs
Design Systems & Consistency
- Define, contribute to and help evolve the design system and component library, following governance and contribution standards and supporting adoption across teams
- Ensure consistency and scalability across the portfolio through reusable patterns, style guides, content guidelines, and interaction standards
- Partner with engineering to align design libraries with coded components and to improve implementation quality through specs and QA
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Support product prioritization by connecting user needs, business outcomes, and technical constraints to clear experience recommendations
- Facilitate workshops (journey mapping, design studios, story mapping) to align teams, clarify requirements, and drive decisions
- Present design rationale and outcomes to stakeholders; build alignment through storytelling, artifacts, and clear documentation
Accessibility & Compliance Awareness
- Champion accessibility by designing and validating against WCAG standards (color, keyboard, screen reader, responsive behaviors)
- Set usability and accessibility quality bars; partner with QA/engineering to ensure implementation meets standards for diverse user populations
- Incorporate healthcare compliance and privacy requirements (e.g., HIPAA) into interaction patterns, data display, and workflow design
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience Guidelines
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
- 6+ years of relevant UX/UI design experience, including ownership of complex B2B and/or SaaS products
- Expert proficiency in design/prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) and production of developer-ready specifications
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI powered tools as a multiplier of individual and team productivity and efficiency
- Deep knowledge of UX principles, information architecture, accessibility, responsive design, and design system practices
- Demonstrated experience working in agile product teams and influencing roadmap decisions through research and data
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, including presenting to cross-functional leaders
- Ability to translate complex requirements into clear, scalable experiences; comfort navigating ambiguity and making principled tradeoffs
- 15-20% travel required
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA)
- Strong experience building, governing, and operationalizing design systems and component libraries
- Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and modern front-end practices to partner effectively with engineering
- Experience mentoring designers and elevating team design craft through critique, coaching, and best practices
- Certification in UX design or related field
- Experience with data visualization and dashboard design
