Job Description SummaryAs the Commercial Customer Portals (CCP) UX Interaction Designer, you will ensure CCP delivers seamless self-service capabilities across all four portals. You will be involved in managing one or more UX contractors and aligning perspectives from a broad set of stakeholders, including Business Executives, Product Managers, Product Owners, Developers, and Internal/External Customers.
As the UX Interaction Designer, you will act as a subject matter expert in interaction design best practices, prototyping software, and validation techniques. You will mentor junior UX team members, collaborate with development pods, and influence Product Owners, Engineering Leaders, and Functional Business Stakeholders to drive product direction.
You will be responsible for assisting in the creation of useful and desirable software product and service experiences for the industrial internet of things. You will contribute to multiple user experience engagements and highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized business domains.Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Technical Product Managers (TPMs) and Business leadership to understand business strategy, timing, and value stories. Coordinate with the CCP team to integrate these needs into North Star plans.
  • Partner with CCP Business stakeholders to share updates, train users, and support customers in using the Material Store.
  • Drive successful UX design implementation by working closely with TPMs, User Experience, Engineering, and Architecture teams.
  • Define the Product North Star Vision, multi-year roadmap, and 5-quarter development plan in collaboration with TPMs and key stakeholders.
  • Document requirements and test solutions prior to implementation in partnership with TPMs and Business teams.
  • Follow and implement standard work processes, including Big Room Reviews (BRR), Big Room Planning (BRP), and KPI report-outs.
  • Utilize tools such as Figma, Miro, Rally, and other UX-specific software used by the CCP team.
  • Address tickets, issues, and new requirements within agreed timelines while continuously improving processes.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements based on incoming tickets and business needs.
  • Ensure portals comply with ITC Sanctions, including asset and customer requirements.
  • Apply Lean principles to review, update, and implement standard operating procedures.

Leadership

  • Influence Business Partners, Software Engineers, and User Experience Designers on their decisions to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Identify and remove obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team to maintain momentum and productivity.
  • Take ownership of projects, delivering results while mentoring and supporting team members to grow their skills and capabilities.
  • Clearly verbalize the rationale behind decisions and consider downstream implications to ensure thoughtful and impactful outcomes.
  • Reflect on successes and failures to improve performance, decision-making, and team processes.
  • Understand when change is needed and actively participate in technical strategy planning to adapt and evolve.

UX-Specific Responsibilities

  • Drive design and implementation of the roadmap, translating problems into opportunities and iterating on design solutions.
  • Conduct user research to understand user needs, mental models, and working contexts.
  • Mentor junior UX team members in interaction design and lead participatory design activities (e.g., design sprints, card sorting).
  • Use participatory design activities (e.g., paper prototype co-creation, card sorting) to understand vision, business models, assumptions, and tacit knowledge about user needs and behaviors.
  • Ask questions to translate abstract problems into actionable roadmaps for identifying solutions.
  • Capture specific information from stakeholders and validate it back to them for acceptance.
  • Synthesize output from stakeholder research and create visualizations that effectively summarize key insights related to user and customer needs and behaviors.
  • Create annotated prototypes or wireframes of user interface designs that visually and textually communicate the behavior of a software application.
  • Develop knowledge of industrial business domains, products, key processes, suppliers, customers, and market/competitors.
  • Guide effective documentation and communication of design through wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and user stories.
  • Lead research and evaluation of emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends.
  • Advocate for interaction design best practices and ensure holistic design solutions that consider people, processes, and technology.
  • Lead and influence business-wide discussions relative to current user experience projects and the future direction of design and user experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 4 years of professional experience OR associate's degree with minimum of 7 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 9 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Design or
  • Note: Military experience is equivalent to professional experience

Technical Expertise:

  • Demonstrated strong understanding of Agile / Lean UX methodologies
  • Skilled in standard design & wireframing tools (Adobe CC, OmniGraffle, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Hype, Adobe Edge, Keynote).
  • Ability to use generative techniques (sketching, brainstorming, etc.) to establish a variety of possible design decisions and decision scenarios.
