What you'll do...Role summary:
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle from coding to deployment and maintenance. This role requires strong technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with strategic goals. About the team:
The team advances Walmart US Payroll systems through innovative design, enhancement, and maintenance. Collaborating across functions, members support payroll transformation to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery for a large workforce. The group emphasizes scalable solutions, system performance optimization, and resolving complex challenges. Utilizing Agile methodology and SAP expertise, the team drives continuous improvement and operational excellence. It fosters a professional environment focused on business goals, leveraging technical skills such as API design, DevOps, and cloud-native architecture, while maintaining high standards in software development and project management to support Walmart’s mission.
What you'll do:
  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and intelligent automation features.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven practices, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and platform development to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions.
  • Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Ability to integrate AI/ML components and develop intelligent automation using languages such as Python, JavaScript, and C++.
  • Demonstrated skills in debugging, problem solving, and data-driven decision making to optimize engineering outcomes.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
