In this role, you will:
- Lead and develop a team of underwriters responsible for reviewing and approving credit decisions for high-net-worth customers
- Evaluate complex financial structures including trusts, investment portfolios, and other assets to assess risk and determine appropriate credit lines
- Ensure exceptional customer service delivery to affluent clients, balancing credit quality with customer experience
- Collaborate with internal partners such as Wealth Advisors and Private Bankers to proactively address client needs
- Interpret and develop processes for complex workflow within the team
- Approve credit card applications and line increase requests in excess of department level authorities
- Foster a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous talent development
- Monitor and report on team performance, ensuring alignment with business goals and compliance with credit policies
- Maintain deep expertise in credit policy across all Specialty Credit Card products
- Collaborate with and influence functional business partners, leaders, and executive management to provide support and drive strategic initiatives for the business
- Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development
- Oversee implementation of practices to ensure compliance with Wells Fargo legal, investor, regulatory, or business policies
- 6+ years of Underwriting experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 3+ years of management or leadership experience
- 6+ years of experience underwriting high credit lines or high-dollar lending, preferably within the affluent or commercial lending space
- 3 + years of experience managing underwriting teams in the affluent or specialty segments
- Expert ability to interpret complex financial documents including tax returns, balance sheets, income statements
- Significant experience with personal business cashflow analysis
- Proven success in supporting the needs of sophisticated banking relationships and delivering strong customer experience and credit quality outcomes
- Exceptional relationship management skills, with track record of building trust, influencing outcomes, and collaborating across high-value client environments
- Deep knowledge of underwriting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Experience supporting or partnering with Financial Advisors, Wealth Management, or Private Banking teams to meet the needs of sophisticated banking relationships
- Executive presence with a track record of influencing senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to drive strategic outcomes
- Experience identifying and recommending opportunities for development and improvement in the team functions
- Experience applying change management methodologies to support business initiatives and operational transitions
- Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and navigating ambiguity
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
