About the Opportunity

Job Summary

The Undergraduate Research Assistant will support research and operational activities within the Defense Industrial Base Institute (DIBI) at Northeastern University. The role contributes to applied research on defense industrial base challenges, including advanced manufacturing, supply chain resilience, and emerging maritime and autonomous systems technologies. The position combines research support, analytical assistance, and administrative coordination in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct background research on advanced manufacturing adoption, emerging technologies, and defense industrial base trends
  • Support research on submarine industrial base and supply chain constraints, including literature reviews and data gathering
  • Assist with research on unmanned systems, including drone technologies and unmanned surface vessel (USV) production
  • Take detailed meeting notes and help prepare summaries, memos, and briefings for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support preparation of research materials, presentations, and internal reports
  • Assist with organizing research files, tracking deliverables, and coordinating project materials
  • Provide general administrative and coordination support for DIBI research activities, meetings, and events as needed

Qualifications

  • Must be a current undergraduate student
  • U.S. citizen (required due to federal funding restrictions)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to synthesize information clearly and concisely
  • Interest in defense, technology, supply chains, or public policy preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Teams/Zoom experience preferred
