The Company

Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2. Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating unique, challenging, and fun gaming experiences.

The Role

We’re looking for a UI/UX Designer to join our team and help build the interface experience for our game, No More Room In Hell 2.

This is a hands-on role focused on designing and implementing game UI directly in Unreal Engine. You’ll work closely with game designers and programmers to create menus, HUDs, widgets, and UI flows that are clear, responsive, and fit the game's visual identity. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for UI design, understands game interfaces, and is comfortable getting into Unreal Engine and UMG to make their work playable and functional.

Note: While this role can be carried out remotely, candidates are required to be current Ontario or Quebec residents or willing to relocate to Ontario

  • Design and implement game UI, menus, HUDs, widgets, and interactive interfaces.
  • Build and maintain UI directly in Unreal Engine using UMG.
  • Create UI layouts, states, navigation, interactions, and transitions.
  • Turn UI concepts and visual designs into functional in-game interfaces.
  • Work closely with UI programmers to integrate visual assets into the game.
  • Collaborate with game designers and programmers to define and implement UI requirements.
  • Prototype UI quickly in Unreal and iterate based on playtesting and feedback.
  • Maintain consistency across the game's different UI systems and screens.
  • Help define reusable UI patterns and components.
  • Ensure UI is responsive, readable, and intuitive during gameplay.
  • Support UI implementation from prototype through to final polish and live updates.

Requirements

  • Professional experience as a UI Designer in the games industry.
  • Strong understanding of game UI design and visual hierarchy.
  • Hands-on experience creating and implementing UI in Unreal Engine.
  • Strong knowledge of UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics).
  • Comfortable working directly in the Unreal Editor.
  • Experience building menus, HUDs, widgets, and interactive UI flows.
  • Ability to work with UI art assets and integrate them into functional interfaces.
  • Understanding of basic UX principles, particularly around navigation, menus, and player flows.
  • Experience working on live games and iterating UI based on player needs and feedback.
  • Comfortable collaborating with programmers, designers, and artists.
  • Strong attention to detail and a good eye for polish.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining UI systems on a live game.

Bonus

  • Familiarity with Unreal Blueprints and basic scripting.
  • Experience prototyping UI/UX directly in-engine.
  • Understanding of accessibility and usability best practices.
  • Some knowledge of UI animation and motion design.
  • Experience collaborating closely with gameplay programmers and technical designers.
