SBS, an Enverus company, is seeking a Test Automation Engineer to join the Distribution Tools team, reporting to Mathew Rickard, Director of Software Development. This is a dedicated, 100%-automation-focused role: your mandate is to convert our existing manual regression coverage into reliable automated tests, building on our existing investment in T-Plan Robot for image-based desktop and CAD GUI automation.
A core part of this role is applying AI tools to the hardest part of test automation - writing and maintaining the tests themselves - while building in the validation steps needed to keep AI-assisted tests repeatable and trustworthy, not just fast to produce.
This role starts embedded in Distribution Tools, but it is designed to grow: the frameworks, practices, and tooling you build are expected to extend across SBS's broader desktop application portfolio (AUD, ABD, DDS, P4A/P4I, and the SDS suite) as the practice matures, and your remit will expand accordingly over time.
What you will do
Test Automation & Coverage
  • Own automation of existing manual regression test suites for Distribution Tools products, using T-Plan Robot as the primary automation engine for CAD-based desktop GUI testing.
  • D esign and implement automated test frameworks and reusable patterns for desktop and Revit-integrated applications.
  • Execute automated test suites, analyze failures, and document defects with clear reproduction steps.
  • Maintain and continuously improve test automation infrastructure and its integration with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions / Azure DevOps).

AI-Assisted Test
  • Authoring Evaluate and apply AI/LLM tools to accelerate the authoring and maintenance of GUI test scripts.
  • Build generate-then-validate workflows so AI-assisted test creation produces repeatable, trustworthy regression coverage rather than brittle, one-off scripts.
  • Document what works, and what doesn't, so the approach can be adopted by other teams.
  • Collaboration & Process Partner with developers and product owners across Distribution Tools to prioritize the highest-value regression scenarios to automate first.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) as an embedded member of the Distribution Tools team.
  • Provide feedback on code quality and testability during code reviews.

Reporting & Growth
  • T rack and report on automation coverage, defect trends, and time saved to build the business case for expanding the practice.
  • As the practice matures, extend frameworks and mentorship to test engineers on other desktop product teams (Substation Tools, GTI).

What skills you should have
  • 5+ years of combined experience in manual and automated testing of desktop or engineering software
  • Hands-on experience with T-Plan Robot or a comparable image/OCR-based GUI automation tool for desktop applications
  • Practical, applied experience using AI and LLM tools in a development or QA workflow, able to speak to both productivity gains and repeatability risks
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose test automation framework, such as NUnit, Selenium, or WinAppDriver
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, such as GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps

Skills that stand out
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or Inventor and their automation APIs
  • Experience standing up a test automation practice from a limited existing base, rather than extending a mature one
  • Background in utility, energy, or infrastructure engineering software

Our Technology Stack
T-Plan Robot, NUnit, Selenium, WinAppDriver, SQL, Postman, Swagger, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Inventor
