Forbes is looking to hire a Temporary Reporter, Forbes 250. That person will be an integral part of the team that is producing a large yearlong company-wide project—called Forbes 250—from conceptualization through launch.
In recognition and celebration of America’s monumental 250th birthday in 2026, Forbes is embarking on an ambitious new project to celebrate a nation of problem-solvers, mavericks and risk-takers. This yearlong program will identify and celebrate the qualities that unite Americans and the values that are fundamental to the promise, progress, and positivity of America. Announced on Independence Day 2025, the Forbes 250 initiative will roll out in six parts throughout 2026, each part celebrating a core tenet of American identity, and each tenet woven throughout Forbes’ print, video, social and website editorial content, including:

  • 10-page print editorial feature in each of the year’s six magazine issues
  • Six published lists of 250 living individuals and 250 all-time individuals who represent each of the six tenets
  • A tentpole ForbesLive event around each of the six tenets
  • A digital landing page for the project
  • An advisory board and judging panel around each of the six tenets, gathering before each package/list/event to give input on the list and to devise “Common Sense” solutions, which will then be featured in the packages/events

Responsibilities:

  • Contacting industry groups, networking organizations and other sources to solicit their nominations for the list.
  • Contacting trusted sources to help identify the most qualified and interesting people for the list.
  • Verifying biographical information about each candidate through the emailing of a detailed survey and also through original reporting.
  • Writing sharp, compelling yet concise bios that highlight unique aspects of each person on our list.
  • Fact-checking the bios.
  • Uploading edited bios into the Forbes database.
  • Collecting updated high-resolution headshots from some of the candidates.
  • Generating story ideas to report, write and publish alongside the completed list.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Comfort contacting sources, many of whom are powerful people in business.
  • Creative thinking and/or brainstorming abilities are a must; we are in constant search of new sources to fill the pool of candidates.
  • An ability to meet consistent deadlines
  • Strong writing and reporting skills
  • Attention to detail in fact-checking
  • Flexibility and an interest to pitch in where needed

The hourly rate for this role is $43.00 - $43.00

Forbes has estimated the compensation range set forth above in good faith.  The compensation range is what we believe we will offer, and ultimately pay, a successful candidate.  In determining this range, we consider the experience, level of education (if applicable to the role), knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be had by a successful candidate as well as the budget and the company’s pay rates, generally. This said, we may have to make changes to our compensation estimates and job descriptions from time to time and we expressly reserve the right to do so.  Should we make any such changes, this advertisement will be revised to reflect such revisions.  We encourage you to occasionally re-visit this advertisement to ensure that you are abreast of any changes.  Thank you for your interest in joining Forbes!

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
