Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director of AI and Systems Engineering leads a subject matter expert (SME) team that supports engineering design decisions across enterprise systems and AI infrastructure. This role is responsible for shaping the technical foundation for scalable, high-performance computing environments and advanced AI platforms.
The Director oversees the architecture and optimization of core systems components including compute, storage, and databases. The role drives innovation in virtualization, container orchestration, and automation, and provides strategic leadership in deploying AI infrastructure, collaborating with research teams, and integrating emerging technologies into the enterprise stack.

In this role, you will:
- Leading a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) to support engineering design decisions across enterprise systems and AI infrastructure.
- Shaping the technical foundation for scalable, high-performance computing environments and advanced AI platforms.
- Overseeing architecture and optimization of core systems components including compute, storage, and databases.
- Driving innovation in virtualization, container orchestration, and infrastructure automation.
- Providing strategic leadership in deploying AI infrastructure and integrating emerging technologies into the enterprise stack.
- Collaborating with research teams and fostering internal R&D initiatives to promote innovation.
- Designing and implementing enterprise compute platforms and GPU-accelerated clusters (e.g., Nvidia Superpods).
- Architecting scalable storage and database systems to ensure performance and resilience.
- Driving automation and orchestration using tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible.
- Guiding system architecture decisions for hybrid cloud and distributed systems.
- Managing vendor relationships to align external capabilities with internal goals.
- Supporting AI/ML workloads through infrastructure design and deployment.
- 8+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 4+ years of management or leadership experience
- 8+ years of in enterprise compute systems including CPU and GPU clusters and high-performance computing environments
- 8+ years experience with storage technologies such as block, object, and file systems and data lifecycle management
- 8+ years experience in database architecture including relational systems like PostgreSQL and SQL Server and NoSQL systems like MongoDB and Cassandra
- 8+ years experience virtualization platforms such as VMware, Nutanix, and KubeVirt.
- 4+ years experience with Kubernetes (OpenShift, GKE, AKS)
- 4+ years experience of infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing Nvidia SuperPODs or AMD equivalents w/ ROCm and ROCe in GPU-accelerated environments
- InfiniBand and ROCe
- OpenShift AI
- Run.AI
- Familiarity with AI and ML frameworks including PyTorch and TensorFlow
- Understanding of MLOps practices and performance tuning for AI workloads
- Ten or more years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure architecture, or technical leadership role
