Project Overview

We are seeking a seasoned technical writer to operationalize a documentation suite that supports customer adoption of wireless telecommunications equipment. This role involves building detailed, self-serve technical resources that enable customers to understand and seamlessly integrate hardware products into complex network environments. This is a foundational documentation project: the writer will structure, author, and unify a comprehensive portfolio of support materials, ranging from installation manuals to technical specifications and troubleshooting/FAQ content.

Scope and Duration
  • Contract Length: 3 months
  • Commitment: 20 hours/week
Key Responsibilities
  • Audit existing documentation to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for consolidation or improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, product, operations, and customer success, to extract accurate, relevant technical information and to understand the intended audience for collateral.
  • Develop core customer-facing documents such as:
    • Installation guides
    • User manuals
    • Technical specifications
    • Troubleshooting documentation
    • Integration overviews (e.g., cabling, network compatibility)
    • Product datasheets and supporting one-pagers
  • Create a scalable, coherent information architecture that supports intuitive navigation and discoverability.
  • Collaborate with marketing to standardize technical language, visuals, and formatting across all documentation.
  • Translate highly complex concepts related to hardware, software, firmware, and networking into accessible language for a range of audiences.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to validate documentation and iterate as needed.
Must-Have Experience
  • 5+ years as a technical writer, ideally in telecom, networking, or hardware environments.
  • Proven ability to independently produce high-quality, structured documentation for highly technical products.
  • Experience writing for both technical implementers and broader customer-facing audiences.
Familiarity With
  • Free space optics or wireless transmission technologies
  • Networking infrastructure, middle-mile architecture, and telecom protocols
  • Leading content creation from scratch, including interviewing subject matter experts and clarifying ambiguous requirements
Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
  • Background in engineering or technical deployment roles
  • Experience working with early-stage startups or technology spin-outs
  • Familiarity with telecom customer onboarding, installation fieldwork, or B2B infrastructure support models
About the Client

Our client is a pioneering company developing next-generation free space optics technology to revolutionize wireless internet infrastructure. Their laser-based data transmission hardware offers a powerful alternative to traditional radio-based internet connectivity. Serving both global telecom giants and regional network operators, their mission is to deliver scalable, high-speed infrastructure faster and more efficiently than ever before.
