As a technology leader that is rapidly on the move, HARMAN is filled with people who are focused on making life better. Innovation, inclusivity and teamwork are a part of our DNA. When you add that to the challenges we take on and solve together, you’ll discover that at HARMAN you can grow, make a difference and be proud of the work you do every day.
About the Role
At HARMAN International, we are revolutionizing music metadata management and discovery. We’re seeking a Technical Product Manager (TPM) to drive the technical product decisions and execution for the systems powering our music discovery platform. You’ll partner with engineering, product, design/UX, and data stakeholders to define the technical direction, align priorities, and deliver cross-team deliverables that improve music search, recommendation, personalization, and overall metadata quality at scale.
This role sits with the Data Team in the broader HARMAN Software Experiences organization, and will be responsible for shaping technical plans, clarifying requirements, managing dependencies and risk, and ensuring high-quality delivery for data-driven features that enhance the user experience.
What you will Do:
Technical Product Leadership & Decision-Making
Drive technical product decisions across the music discovery backend: clarify problem statements, establish success metrics, and align technical tradeoffs (quality, latency, reliability, cost, velocity).
Partner with Engineering and Product leadership to build alignment, influence decisions, and communicate project strategy, status, and impact.
Project Strategy, Planning, and Execution (Multi-Team)
Own the planning and execution of large-scale projects with multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
Build and maintain project plans: milestones, timelines, resourcing assumptions, critical paths, and launch readiness criteria.
Run the operating cadence: standups/syncs, stakeholder reviews, executive updates, and decision forums; maintain project artifacts and decision logs.
Risk, Dependencies, and Delivery Hygiene
Identify and mitigate risks, manage dependencies, resolve blockers, and escalate when needed to protect delivery dates and quality.
Drive operational readiness: observability expectations (monitoring/alerting), on-call readiness, performance SLOs, and reliability guardrails in partnership with engineering.
Cross-Functional Outcomes for Music Discovery
Coordinate with teams building/operating APIs and pipelines that enable music catalog, search, and recommendation experiences (including third-party metadata and streaming integrations).
Use data and customer signals to measure project impact (metadata quality, recommendation lift, latency, availability) and adjust roadmap proposals accordingly.
What you need to Be Successful:
Core Qualifications
6+ years experience driving technical projects end-to-end (platform, infrastructure, data, backend services, ML/analytics systems, or similar).
Strong technical fluency: able to partner with engineers on architecture discussions, tradeoffs, and execution planning.
Excellent written and verbal communication: can drive alignment, document decisions, and present clear project status and outcomes.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure) and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, Kubernetes, serverless).
Experience with backend/API systems, cloud-native development, and production operations.
Technical Environment Familiarity (Nice to Have)
Comfort working with data ecosystems (SQL/warehouses, caching, queues/streams).
Experience shipping projects that involve machine learning pipelines, recommendation systems, or search relevance.
Background in music metadata, audio streaming ecosystems, or music technology domain knowledge.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or another related field
