3Pillar warmly extends an invitation for you to join an elite team of visionaries. Beyond software development, we are dedicated to engineering solutions that challenge conventional norms. Envision you: steering projects that redefine urban living, establish new media channels for enterprise companies, or drive innovation in healthcare. Your invaluable expertise will serve as the cornerstone in shaping the future direction of our endeavors.

This role transcends the ordinary realms of coding; it's about orchestrating technological marvels that disrupt industries. Seize this extraordinary opportunity to lead a team that is actively shaping the tech landscape for our clients, and sets global standards along the way.

Overview:

We are seeking a strong Dev/Sec/Ops lead engineer, contract to hire (6 months) to join our client’s  Technology Controls & RunOps Enablement team. You will own the DevOps, SecOps, cloud governance, and infrastructure architecture that underpins all their technology delivery. This is a shared enabling role — your work will make delivery faster by making it safer, more observable, and more repeatable for every squad. You will partner closely with engineering leads, security, and architecture to build a modern, well-governed cloud environment. This role reports into the Head of Engineering.

Tech Stack:

AWS is the cloud platform, enabling scalable and secure infrastructure.  Infrastructure is managed using Terraform, with Docker and AWS Lambda for containerization and deployment. They rely on GitLab for our CI/CD processes to ensure smooth and efficient software delivery. Use GitLab for CI/CD. There is a significant opportunity to modernize the cloud posture, accelerate developer productivity, and formalize DevSecOps practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, Docker, and related IaC tooling

  • Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to ensure smooth, secure, and efficient software delivery

  • Implement and maintain DevSecOps practices including security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance automation

  • Define and enforce cloud governance policies, cost management, and architectural guardrails across the organization

  • Build observability and monitoring solutions that improve reliability, performance, and incident response across all platforms

  • Partner with the CISO and security team to ensure ITGC evidence, audit readiness, and control frameworks are in place

  • Accelerate developer productivity through self-service tooling, environment automation, and standardized deployment patterns

  • Ensure high-quality infrastructure delivery through strong collaboration with product, engineering, and security

  • Contribute to architecture decisions and technology standards in coordination with engineering leadership

  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and platform engineering

  • Mentor engineers on infrastructure best practices, cloud architecture, and operational excellence

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure roles with deep AWS experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Strong proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).

  • Deep experience with containerization (Docker, ECS/EKS) and serverless architectures (Lambda, Step Functions).

  • Expertise in CI/CD pipeline design and management, preferably with GitLab.

  • Solid understanding of DevSecOps practices, security scanning, and compliance automation.

  • Deep knowledge of cloud governance, cost optimization, and architectural best practices on AWS.

  • Ability to translate business and engineering needs into infrastructure solutions and platform capabilities.

  • Strong Agile proficiency with practical application to deliver incremental, high-quality solutions.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, capable of influencing both technical and business stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage complex project timelines in fast-paced environments.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry and/or Financial Services.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, adept at building collaborative relationships across teams and stakeholders.

  • AWS certifications (Preferred)

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
