About Pomp
Pomp is building the all-in-one “business-in-a-box” platform for estheticians, skincare experts, and med spas—empowering them to run and grow their businesses through powerful tools, a thriving marketplace, and streamlined client interactions.
Originally built without AI, Pomp is now entering a critical phase: transforming our platform into an AI-native ecosystem that improves user experience, automates internal workflows, and scales our operations sustainably.
Today, our product & engineering function is intentionally lean. We currently work with a tenured engineering contractor and a product designer, and we’re looking to bring in a uniquely talented full-time Technical Lead who can own both product technology strategy and hands-on execution.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly strategic, analytical, and entrepreneurial Technical Lead to own Pomp’s product direction and technical execution. This is not a traditional engineering leadership role with an existing team — you will be the only full-time engineering lead, and you will not have direct reports (at least initially).
You’ll operate as the primary technical owner of the platform, partnering closely with:
- One experienced engineering contractor (who knows the codebase well)
- A product lead / designer
- The CEO / Founder
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a small, fast-moving environment where they can architect, build, ship, and iterate quickly, while also shaping the longer-term system and product direction.
Compensation: $150K–$180K + equity incentives tied to milestones, strong benefits, and a highly flexible working environment.
What You’ll Own
Product & Technical Strategy
- Define and drive Pomp’s product and technology roadmap.
- Translate business goals into clear, actionable engineering initiatives.
- Lead the evolution of Pomp from a traditional web platform into an AI-native ecosystem.
AI System Design & Integration
- Architect and integrate core AI systems across user-facing features and internal workflows.
- Evaluate, prototype, and implement AI technologies that materially improve scalability and performance.
- Partner with business, ops, and product stakeholders to identify automation opportunities.
Hands-On Engineering Execution (Primary)
- Serve as the senior-most technical voice and the primary builder of the platform.
- Own architecture and development decisions end-to-end.
- Work directly in the codebase shipping high-quality features and improvements.
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and extensibility as we grow into a “business-in-a-box” SaaS + marketplace model.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate closely with our tenured engineering contractor (you will not inherit a team).
- Partner deeply with product design to shape UX and ship polished experiences.
- Over time, help determine when and how we should scale engineering support (future hires are possible but not guaranteed in the near term).
Current Stack
- Front-End: React
- Back-End: Node.js
- Database & Analytics: PostgreSQL, AWS Aurora
- Hosting & Storage: AWS S3, CloudFront, ECS/EKS
- Integrations: Stripe, Square, Zapier; messaging via Twilio/SendGrid
- Monitoring & Security: AWS CloudWatch, Cognito, Sentry
What We’re Looking For
Must-Haves
- Strong full-stack engineering experience with architectural ownership.
- AI-native mindset: experience building or integrating AI/ML features, LLM workflows, automation, or systems.
- Comfort operating as the only full-time engineering lead, without a staffed engineering team.
- Ability to function as both a strategist and a hands-on engineer.
- Strong analytical thinking—can zoom out to vision and zoom in to execution.
- Experience working in early-stage startups with ambiguity and fast-paced iteration.
- Comfort owning the entire product lifecycle end-to-end.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience building marketplaces, SaaS tools, or productivity platforms.
- Background in consumer products, health/wellness, or beauty-tech.
- Experience implementing scalable internal automation systems.
- Design sensibility and comfort contributing to lightweight UX flows.
- Prior experience growing an engineering function from a lean starting point.
What Success Looks Like in 12 Months
- Pomp has transitioned into an AI-enabled experience for both estheticians and internal teams.
- Core workflows are automated, reducing manual overhead and improving operational efficiency.
- The product roadmap is strategically aligned with company vision and consistently executed.
- The platform foundation is stable, scalable, and ready to grow.
- Marketplace + business-in-a-box workflows are tightly integrated and powering practitioner growth.
Why Join Pomp
