Covaris, Inc. is a biotech company headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts. Covaris has developed the Adaptive Focused Acoustics™ (AFA) technology platform, which enables pre-analytical sample preparation, enabling the extraction, purification, and collection of nucleic acids, proteins, and metabolites from a wide variety of samples. Covaris AFA technology is the gold standard for DNA fragmenting for Next-Generation Sequencing. Covaris products have unique and competitive advantages for Genomics, Proteomics, and Epigenomics research scientists.

Summary:

Responsible for supporting the daily purchasing and strategic sourcing activities within our life sciences manufacturing and research operations. This role focuses on sourcing production materials for instrumentation, consumables, and reagent manufacturing within an ISO 13485-compliant environment. The Buyer collaborates closely with New Product Introduction (NPI) and Sustaining Engineering teams to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules and development milestones.

Responsibilities: The employee may be required to perform all or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity.

• Read and understand technical specifications

• Run RFPs with new and existing suppliers; evaluate bids and summarize results with sourcing recommendations

• Negotiate price, delivery, quality and service

• Process purchase requisitions and place orders with approved suppliers

• Monitor all assigned purchase orders until order completion

• Work with Receiving and Accounting to resolve supplier invoice discrepancies

• Work closely with manufacturing operations to resolve material shortages efficiently

• Ensure and promote compliance with Company and Procurement policies and procedures

Non-Essential Responsibilities: In addition to the essential responsibilities listed above, the employee may be required to perform other non-essential functions. Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by their supervisor.

• Assists with the selection of new suppliers

• Works with Quality department on qualifications and audits of suppliers

• Establish accounts/credit application and negotiate payment

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required

• 7+ years’ experience

• Excellent computer skills, Excel expertise a must

• Experience with Office 365 suite of applications

• Experience with MRP systems. GP or SAP knowledge is a plus

• Negotiation abilities and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Shows excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong customer service and multi-tasking skills

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes preferred

• Certification in Supply Chain Management or similar is desired

• Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as individually
