Established in 2021, Independence Pet Holdings is a corporate holding company that manages a diverse and broad portfolio of modern pet health brands and services, including insurance, pet education, lost recovery services, and more throughout North America.

We believe pet insurance is more than a financial product and build solutions to simplify the pet parenting journey and help improve the well-being of pets. As a leading authority in the pet category, we operate with a full stack of resources, capital, and services to support pet parents. Our multi-brand and omni-channel approach include our own insurance carrier, insurance brands and partner brands.

About Clarus

Clarus is a pet health data technology company modernizing how information flows between insurers, veterinarians, and pet owners. We build cloud-native platforms that power automation, real-time decisioning, and trusted data exchange across the pet healthcare ecosystem. Our engineering culture emphasizes strong domain ownership, modern architecture, and tight alignment between Product, Architecture, and Engineering.

The Role

We are looking for two Senior Business Analysts who will also serve as Product Owners within our Agile teams. You will act as the bridge between our global business stakeholders and our technical development teams.

In this role, you will act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the platform, owning the backlog and defining the requirements for our core data services and integration capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Ownership & Agile Leadership

  • Act as the proxy for the business, translating high-level vision into actionable user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria.

  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog to ensure the team is always working on the highest-value features.

  • Proactively use AI-driven tools to accelerate the creation of comprehensive user stories, initial mockups, and test plans, ensuring high velocity without sacrificing quality.

  • Lead Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Backlog Grooming, and Sprint Reviews.

2. Data & Platform Analysis

  • Define requirements for data ingestion from third-party partners and map them to our internal data standards.

  • Work with architects to define the attributes of our Unified Data Models, ensuring we capture a comprehensive view of the customer and their needs.

  • Analyze complex business workflows to identify opportunities for process optimization and service efficiency.

3. Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across our global portfolio companies to understand their specific market needs.

  • Ensure that the platform is built with modularity and scalability in mind, capable of serving multiple tenants and external partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or Technical Product Manager.

  • Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies. Proven experience writing high-quality user stories using management tools like Jira or Azure DevOps (ADO).

  • Comfortable using Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) to draft documentation, generate test scenarios, and visualize concepts. You should view AI as a partner in your workflow, not a replacement.

  • Technical Aptitude: Experience working on backend platforms, API integrations, or data-driven products within cloud environments (Azure preferred).

  • Data Literacy: You don't need to code, but you must be comfortable discussing data mapping, system logic, and integration flows involving modern data tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or SQL).

  • Be located in the greater Chicago area and willing to work 2 days/week (Tues/Thurs) onsite in our downtown office.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Haves)

  • Previous experience in Animal Health, Veterinary Technology, or Insurance.

  • Familiarity with veterinary practice management software or insurance policy administration systems.

  • Understanding of data privacy, compliance, or financial transaction workflows.

Why Join Us?

  • We are building the foundational technology that powers the future of pet health services.

  • Opportunity to shape the future of pet health technology in a fast-growing and capitalized startup.

  • Collaborative and innovative work environment.

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

  • Flexible remote-first environment with regular opportunities for in-person collaboration.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
