About Us

We’re building Reflow, a workforce and workflow intelligence platform that helps teams understand and improve how work gets done. We’re a U.S.-based tech company with a high bar for talent, ownership, and execution, and we’re intentional about building a strong, globally distributed team from the start.

About the Work

Problem: Our Head of Engineering is most focused on building and is looking for ongoing guidance on structuring and scaling their engineering team. We are looking for a fractional advisor for approximately 10-15 hours a week.

Specifically, you'll:

  • Co-own the interview process for our key engineering hires, including:

    • DevOps Engineer (priority)

    • Data Scientist (priority)

    • Windows & Mac engineers

    • Full-stack web engineers

  • Design the technical portion of the interview process yourself, and either run the interviews or bring in trusted specialists to help us assess skills

  • Advise our Head of Engineering on org design and team scaling strategies

  • Beyond hiring, serve as a technical sounding board for our Head of Engineering

About You

You MUST have:

  • Been a CTO for other early and growth-stage VC-backed tech startups

  • Scaled engineering teams from roughly zero to 50+ engineers within the last few years

  • A technical skillset that can confidently evaluate candidates across a range of roles from AI, DevOps, Data Science, Full-Stack, etc.

  • Built engineering teams with a technically complex product

  • Based in the USA only

Compensation:

We offer competitive pay based on the market and where you’re located. The salary ranges in our job postings are intentionally wide because they need to cover both U.S. and international candidates. Our final offer will depend on things like your experience, skill set, and location.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
