The primary function is the production of an underwriting profit through the effective development and maintenance of quality business consistent with the overall business plan objectives under direct supervision and within specific authority grant. The position is responsible for accepting or rejecting new business and continually developing renewal business in accordance with the company's underwriting practices.

Key Responsibilities
- Evaluates basic new and renewal business using all tools available such as driving records, inspection reports, financial reports, MSB, Riskmeter, loss runs, etc.
- Makes profitable individual risk judgments/recommendations within limited authority grant, based on Arbella’s underwriting philosophies and guidelines.
- Effectively manage the priority of work and processing within the underwriting territory to provide excellent service to our agents, and meet company financial objectives
- Provides timely, courteous and efficient service regarding underwriting and related matters to Producers and Policyholders.
- In conjunction with Marketing, continually assesses the capability and strength of our agency plant to achieve the financial objectives of the company. This includes agency reviews, audit functions, field visits and the production of business.
- Through ongoing education and training, maintain current skills and increase professional development of underwriting skills and additional lines of business.
- Completes all training assignments as directed.
- Take courses, both internal and external to increase knowledge and capability.
- Learns from others and takes ownership of personal professional development.
- Participates in the development of agency business plan objectives that are consistent with our corporate mission and direction.
- Provides feedback to and cooperates with Marketing in managing the performance assigned agents in meeting tier business plans.
- Demonstrates a basic level of skill in applying pricing tools necessary to procure new business and retain renewals, while ensuring the best possibility of making a profit, and attaining specific pricing targets as outlined in the business objectives.
- Has limited authority to use specific filed pricing tools.
Requirements
- Handles new business submissions within the pre-established Arbella service standards.
- Review and act on all loss control reports within five days of receipt.
- Exhibits outstanding relationship building and negotiation skills
- Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication, customer service and collaboration skills
- Progressive work experience in CL Underwriting with sound leadership potential in coaching, training and developing people.
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Our current reasonable and good faith estimate of the annual salary wage range for this position is approximately $120,000 -$135,000 based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, educational background and certifications, performance and qualifications, market demand for the role and other organizational needs.
