Role Description:
The Tax Technology Manager plays a critical role in optimizing Caterpillar's Tax processes through effective governance and design of financial systems, primarily Vertex and SAP. This role focuses on system design, integration, process governance, and risk management, without involvement in deployment or support, in alignment with Caterpillar's V-shaped delivery model.
As part of the Caterpillar IT Corporate Services team, this position is responsible for defining and maintaining scalable, standardized, and sustainable system designs supporting Indirect, Direct and other taxes. The role requires close collaboration with Caterpillar Global Tax Team, and business unit stakeholders to ensure alignment between business needs and system capabilities.
What You Will Do:
  • Function as the liaison between technology teams and business process owners, representing process owners during system design and redesign activities.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Indirect and Other taxes, guiding system design and resolving process-related issues.
  • Define and maintain governance frameworks for Vertex usage, configuration, integration with other systems and lifecycle management.
  • Own the design integrity and strategic roadmap for Vertex and related financial applications.
  • Establish and enforce technical standards, best practices, and internal control requirements (including SOX compliance).
  • Govern change requests and ensure alignment with global standards and business objectives.
  • Function as a trusted advisor for Vertex and ERP implementations, ensuring financial reporting integrity during system transitions.
  • Partner with Caterpillar Global tax Team, and business units to gather requirements and translate them into scalable system designs.
  • Provide strategic input on financial transformation initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Communicate effectively with global stakeholders on financial systems governance and accounting-related matters.

What You Have:
  • Experience in Tax or Tax Technology, or Financial Systems roles.
  • Firsthand experience with Vertex and SAP in system design, integrations, or implementation.
  • Strong understanding of finance transformation and tax processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • Solid accounting acumen and familiarity with financial processes.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global, matrixed environment.

Additional Info:
  • The primary location for this position is Dallas, TX or Peoria, IL.
  • 5 DAYS ONSITE MANDATORY
  • Relocation is available for qualified candidates.

Top Candidates Will Have:
  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or master's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Vertex / SAP Certification.
  • Deep knowledge of Vertex and SAP integration methods.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle, QAD, etc.

  • Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Application Delivery Process: Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, and formal application delivery methodologies; ability to utilize these to deliver new or enhanced applications.
  • Information Security Technologies: Knowledge of technologies and technology-based solutions dealing with information security issues; ability to protect information security across the organization using encryption technologies and appropriate security software.

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
