Summary

The Tax Operations Analyst researches, analyzes, and recommends changes to an organization’s business process to improve operational efficiencies, quality, service, and profitability. The role also performs audits, complex research, and reconciliation using multiple systems (TaxEx, Workday, Atmos, etc.). The Tax Support Analyst will be working with the internal teams to resolve any escalation.

Responsibilities

  • Escalation support. Requires reporting, in-depth TE knowledge, and research skills, also can be customer-facing. Identifies and resolves escalations and complex issues, provides root-cause analysis, and implements process improvements to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Review and reconcile full cancel complete or partial cancel complete and communicate with the team. Review customer WD data, out of balance in Taxex, and create a file in Atmos. Apply overpayment to future tax liabilities and release refund in Taxex
  • Review daily payment and daily processing to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop process documentation and project plans. Work on exception requests like mid-quarter history, reprocessing missing liabilities, daily refunds, and review of tax code mapping.
  • Investigates, analyzes and responds timely and accurately to tax inquiries, agency notices, and audits from both internal customers and external agencies.
  • Assists with various tax-related payroll projects, system testing, and implementations. Partner with Treasury, Tax Consultant, Service Readiness, and Development teams to support various complex audit and data management programs.
  • Creates flowcharts, process maps, and diagrams to create SOPs for the Payment and Processing team.
  • Support auditing daily packets. Support payments during quarter end/year end creating complex filing.
  • Assist with process design, work with BA/R&D on requirements and system testing. Develops and maintains process documentation (e.g., standard operating procedures, desktop procedures, and job aids) to ensure a complete, accurate, and up-to-date depiction of tax processes.
  • Perform complex reconciliation for Estimate Tax payment, Job credit, and quarter-end credit reconciliation. Attend meetings with customers if they need further assistance on any exception process.
  • Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax regulations including federal, state, and local taxes. This includes rapidly researching specific tax and agency requirements through agency websites and other general tax sources. While this role is not directly responsible for compliance it supports and interprets taxes and regulations in conjunction with the internal compliance group, and frequently communicates research results both internally and to customers.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects, as assigned.

  • High ability to learn and effectively use new and evolving technological products that relate to tax reporting and/or servicing customers.
  • Must be extremely organized, have attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office including Excel and Word.
  • Analytical with strong problem-solving abilities and creative resolution skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to interface with all levels from the C-Suite to the payroll clerk.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a similar field of study; or equivalent years in an advanced payroll tax function.

Required

  • 5+ years working in Payroll tax, strong experience in reconciling and auditing payroll tax, working on complex tax projects
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment as it relates to federal, state, and local income tax and unemployment tax.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook)

Preferred

  • Previous experience working with either TaxEx, Salesforce, Workday or other ERP HR/Payroll systems/applications.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) / Certified Payroll Professional(CPP) certifications.
  • Experience providing customer support via a Service Provider or Shared Services Organization.
