Job Description SummaryThe Systems Technology Integration (STI) Section is inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability in the emerging fields of Advanced Air Mobility, next generation rotorcraft, and military drones. STI’s focus is advancing technologies for new/derivative propulsion and airframe concepts through demonstrator rig test, engine ground test, engine flight test, and certification/qualification campaigns. We collaborate with innovative aircraft manufacturers to facilitate groundbreaking improvements in aviation technology and eco-friendly air transportation solutions. Technology areas include hybrid electric propulsion systems (Turbogenerators), engine integration in demonstrator manned/unmanned aircraft, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies to support the future of flight.
The Systems Technology Mechanical Design Lead Engineer will pioneer novel design features, materials, and manufacturing processes that push the boundaries of turbine engine technology. A central focus of this role will be leading the development and integration of advanced materials and manufacturing methods—assessing and advancing technical readiness of emerging technologies. This job is for a passionate engineering problem solver who understands the design process, tackles technical challenges head-on, and excels at teamwork and collaboration.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional design efforts to mature turbine engine component technologies through demonstrator rig and/or engine testing. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Create designs that support both ground and flight testing for demonstrator and/or certification/qualification purposes. Take component concepts through the entire design process, exercising core engineering skills including 3D modeling, finite element analysis, high cycle & low cycle fatigue assessments, mechanical stack-ups, and drawing definition release.

  • Conduct design trades to optimize across a range of requirements, develop validation plans for new technologies, and understand the impact on project cost and schedule. 

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to establish boundary conditions, assess advanced material and manufacturing capabilities

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Use prior experience and acquire technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.

  • Develop in-depth understanding of key business drivers; use this understanding to accomplish own work.

  • Use prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • Provide informal guidance to new team members.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in turbine design or related field

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.  We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze & solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, & program management skills

  • Demonstrated track record of ability to work in a team environment

  • Experience with turbine engine structural component design

  • Experience with turbine engine component design for additive manufacturing

  • Experience with engine/aircraft installations

  • Experience working with external customers/partners and processes

  • Experience working in EVM managed projects

  • Material Review Board (MRB) certification

  • Strong understanding of turbogenerator principles and technologies

  • Proficiency in CAD software (NX) and simulation tools (Ansys, etc)

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, uncertain environment

The base pay range for this position is $109,250.00 - 146,050.00. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan.  This posting is expected to close on March 30th, 2026.
