Leidos Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) is seeking a Systems Engineer in the Aviation organization.  This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer to engage in hands-on work while developing a deep understanding of aviation security products.  The role is highly impactful because the products being developed make travel and trade safer, healthier, and more efficient on a global level.

Working in a diverse and collaborative R&D environment, this position will be responsible for providing system-level engineering support to maintain and enhance x-ray scanners.  This will include integration and evaluation of electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and software components, as well as analysis of system-level performance and reliability.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform fundamental engineering duties in electrical design efforts including development, integration, testing, measuring, and analyses/simulations for a variety of products
  • Refine conceptual designs into complete production designs incorporating the appropriate connectors, cables and wiring to meet design criteria
  • Design alternative solutions to reduce bill-of-material costs.
  • Integration and testing of electrical and electro-mechanical subsystems.
  • Finding and evaluating replacements for end-of-life components.
  • Troubleshooting system-level problems.
  • Working with Manufacturing Engineers to resolve production problems.
  • Working with Field Support Engineers to improve system performance.
  • Replicating field problems in the lab and determining root cause.
  • Create test fixtures and procedures to test system components.
  • Produce documentation for changes and submit engineering change orders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or closely related field with 2+ years’ experience, or a Master’s degree in related field and 1-2 years’ experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Strong documentation and process discipline with close attention to details
  • Strong communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Background in design of power distribution systems, electrical circuits, and cabling
  • Knowledge of analog and digital design
  • Must possess the technical expertise to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on prototyping and debugging experience
  • Development experience with Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Linux experience

Come break things (in a good way). Then build them smarter.

We're the tech company everyone calls when things get weird. We don’t wear capes (they’re a safety hazard), but we do solve high-stakes problems with code, caffeine, and a healthy disregard for “how it’s always been done.”
