About the Role
The Supervising Producer will set the standard for Reporter Video in terms of visuals, filming and editing. They will assist in giving feedback and edits to video producers. The Supervising Producer will work across verticals to identify stories and develop relationships with reporters and editors, offering guidance to improve their filming and on camera
reporting.
This role is 100% remote for candidates currently residing in the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement visual look and feel for high-quality, reporter on camera videos in the field, including camera guidance and LUT standards.
- Manage freelancers for assignments with reporters in the field; Build a roster of reliable freelancers for filming, animation and editing.
- Assist in providing guidance to video producers on editing and filming standards.
- Identify video story ideas and hone pitches that center The Athletic’s reporters on camera.
- Train reporters on best practices for filming video on their phones.
- Establish relationships with reporters and editors in the newsroom to stay ahead of potential stories and plans for major events.
- Collaborate with reporters on filming and edit their footage into compelling stories.
- Produce 1-2 videos a week featuring Athletic reporters.
Requirements
- Extensive experience editing news video for a social and digital audience in Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Firm understanding of Sony cameras and best filming practices in a studio and in the field.
- A track record of working with reporters unfamiliar with filming and guiding them through the production process.
- Experience working with animators to communicate a vision for additional motion elements.
- 7+ years of experience producing video in a news, or similar, environment.
- A genuine interest in all types of sports. Experience covering sports is a plus.
- Be available for additional evenings and weekends as coverage requires and the ability to travel for assignment.
The annual base salary range for this role is $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
