Position Profile: Strategic Account Director

The Strategic Account Director is responsible for developing and executing a strategic account plan that addresses the client’s key challenges and business objectives. This role defines long‑term goals for assigned accounts, builds and strengthens customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, leads industry discussions and seminars, and coordinates customer engagement in industry-specific events. The Strategic Account Director will collaborate with subject matter experts and vendor partners to design effective solutions. This role is accountable for delivering profitable revenue growth, expanding service offerings, and ensuring overall account retention.

Job Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Thought Leadership

  • Serve as an industry subject matter expert by facilitating strategic planning discussions and participating in industry seminars and forums.
  • Share and apply best practices with prospective customers and peer Account Directors within the assigned industry.
  • Lead quarterly business reviews and annual strategic planning sessions with relevant subject matter experts.

Research and Networking

  • Conduct research and prepare targeted questions to uncover key challenges and opportunities to deliver value-added solutions.
  • Connect customer requirements to broader industry trends; interpret customer financials to identify priorities and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Solutions Center to share portfolio gaps and support solution development aligned to client outcomes.

Account Relationship Development

  • Identify key business owners and understand how their challenges and objectives align with overall account goals.
  • Develop and present meaningful, relevant content to department leaders, providing updates on initiatives and performance.

Portfolio Expertise

  • Confidently articulate where solutions have been successfully implemented.
  • Share best practices internally and externally through account summaries, case studies, and press releases.
  • Secure customer references as needed.
  • Maintain relevant industry certifications.

Growth Generation

  • Own and achieve all annual revenue and profit targets, with a focus on sustainable long‑term growth.
  • Develop comprehensive business plans for assigned accounts, including 1‑year and 3‑ to 5‑year strategic roadmaps.

Qualifications (Education, Experience & Certifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Industry-specific certifications preferred.
  • 5 years of industry experience; leadership experience preferred.
  • 5 years of successful sales experience.
  • Experience working with executive-level leaders in Fortune 1000 companies.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow service-based offerings.

  • Excellent follow-up, negotiation, and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).

Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Demands

  • Typical office environment with normal lighting, ventilation, temperature, and noise levels.
  • Work assignments require interpreting and applying complex material, data, and instructions, and conveying information clearly.
  • Minimal physical effort; primarily sedentary work with occasional walking, standing, bending, and lifting objects under 10 lbs.
  • Moderate dexterity required (keyboard use, hand tools, coordination).
  • Approximately 30% travel required, including potential overnight travel.
