Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

Do you love being in the middle of it all? Are you as excited to tackle technical problems as you are to build critical client relationships? As a Staff Technical Account Manager, you will be integral to the technical success of our largest merchants in a new geographical market, guiding their developers, product teams, and key business partners throughout the entire customer lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include solution selling and implementing our products into merchants' existing architectures, as well as providing ongoing support as they scale. You will not only help them mitigate potential issues but also empower them to leverage the full spectrum of Affirm’s offerings, translating business objectives into technical strategies and product optimizations. Technical Account Managers are part of the Engineering Team and collaborate closely with Affirm’s Product, Operations, Customer Success, and Frontline Technical Support teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Be the primary technical lead over a set of key merchants in a new geography. Be responsible for building the trust of your technical counterparts while also fostering long term relationships with all merchant partners
  • Project Manage and provide world class technical guidance and solutions for new merchants’ integrations and post launch expansion initiatives; utilize and build on implementation guides, best practice playbooks, troubleshooting, and UAT certification plans

  • Work closely with Commercial team counterpart(s) on establishing overall account strategy based on business goals and opportunities, and selling solutions to new prospects.

  • Support clients through their lifetime as Affirm partners; quickly resolve critical technical issues for your accounts; quarterback multi-departmental efforts to resolve complicated issues in a timely manner

  • Provide early feedback to engineering and product teams while iterating on new products

What We Look For
  • Experience: 7+ years in a client-facing technical role, such as a Technical Account Manager, Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, or Integration Engineer, preferably within a SaaS or FinTech environment.
  • API Expertise: Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, webhooks, and the HTTP protocol. Hands-on experience using API testing tools like Postman to debug and validate integrations is essential.

  • Coding Literacy: Proficiency in reading and understanding production-level code. You should be comfortable with HTML, JavaScript and SQL and ideally one server-side language (e.g. Python).

  • Web & Mobile Architecture: A solid grasp of modern web and mobile application architecture, including client-server models, front-end frameworks, and the role of SDKs.

  • Troubleshooting Acumen: Proven ability to diagnose and solve complex technical problems using a standard toolkit, including browser developer consoles, log analysis platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Chronosphere), and ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, Notion).

  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills, with a deep command of the written word (please submit a cover letter when applying - we actually read them!)

  • This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Nice To Have:
  • Degree in a technical major (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.) or bootcamp grad
  • Familiarity with the payments ecosystem

  • Familiarity with web/mobile application architecture

  • Comfortable writing code in at least one language

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
