About The Role

We have an exciting and unique opportunity for a motivated and energetic Staff Software Engineer to join the Realtor.com® back-end team. In this position, you will help make valuable data easily accessible for everyone. You will work across the full stack and multiple teams developing and operating mission critical systems that integrate with thousands of data sources and process millions of records daily. You will ship code that ensures the flow of content onto Realtor.com® and across our publisher network to reach tens of millions of consumers, learn about and leverage new technologies, work with an experienced team of engineers and be part of a team that has a lot of fun along the way!
What You’ll Do
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to deliver high-quality, user-centric solutions within an Agile/Scrum development process.
- Lead the design, development, and operationalization of scalable backend services, data pipelines, and distributed systems using modern data architectures on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Anticipate future extensibility and guide architectural and design decisions that minimize the cost and risk of change over time.
- Drive a strong engineering focus on performance, scalability, resiliency, availability, and operational excellence.
- Incorporate advanced machine learning, predictive analytics, AI, and automation to enhance product capabilities, improve data quality, monitoring, and overall operational efficiency.
- Continuously improve the developer experience by optimizing tooling, automating infrastructure provisioning, and streamlining CI/CD pipelines to reduce development friction and accelerate delivery.
- Lead by example in process improvement initiatives to increase engineering quality, predictability, and timeliness of deliverables.
- Coach, mentor, and guide team members to deliver effective solutions while balancing return on investment and total cost of ownership.
- Design and implement new application features that deliver meaningful value and delight users.
- Proactively research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns to enhance products and engineering practices.
What You'll Bring
Requirements
- Driven Staff Software Engineer with a passion for building scalable systems, high-quality codebases, and impactful products in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong product and business mindset, able to connect technical decisions to business outcomes and influence long-term tradeoffs.
- Proven ability to translate ambiguous requirements into simple, elegant, extensible, and maintainable solutions.
- Independent self-starter who can lead large, cross-team initiatives, manage priorities, and set clear expectations with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, with experience guiding and mentoring engineers to deliver complex, large-scale systems.
- Strong full-stack experience building and operating production-grade web applications, backend services, and data pipelines.
- 8+ years of experience developing large-scale software systems using modern frameworks, tools, and architectures.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, JavaScript, ReactJS), with the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Experience with cloud-based architectures and deployment, particularly on AWS, including tools and technologies such as CircleCI, Kafka, Kubernetes, GraphQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS).
- Strong experience with CI/CD, build and deployment automation, monitoring, alerting, and operating systems to meet SLAs.
- Solid grounding in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and database/schema design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree a plus.
