Overview:

If you're looking for the stability of a profitable, growing company with the entrepreneurial spirit of a startup, we’re hiring. SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Staff level Software Engineer with a passion for building modern, scalable systems.

In this role, you’ll be one of the first contributors to a new, high-impact technology platform that drives SageSure’s entire insurance policy lifecycle. If you’re an experienced Java/Spring Boot engineer who loves solving complex problems and designing cloud-native systems, this is your opportunity to shape the future of our technology.

What you’d be doing:

  • Collaborating with software engineers, test engineers, and product managers to build high-quality, impactful solutions.
  • Leading technical discussions, contributing to architectural decisions, and document engineering solutions.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining REST APIs and mission-critical backend systems that support our policy lifecycle.
  • Working closely with database engineers to design and optimize SQL data models (PostgreSQL).
  • Leveraging cloud infrastructure, monitoring, and observability tools to deliver stable, performant software.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science (or an equivalent degree program).
  • 5+ years of experience developing and deploying production-grade software.
  • Proven expertise in backend development, with strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
  • Solid experience designing and implementing microservices and distributed systems in cloud-native environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing strategies, and performance optimization.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a team-first mindset.

Highly preferred candidates also have:

  • Insurance industry experience, particularly Property and Casualty (P&C).
  • Experience with Temporal (Workflow Execution Engine) for orchestrating long-running workflows.
  • Hands-on expertise with AWS services (e.g., S3, SNS/SQS, RDS, CloudFormation, Terraform).
  • Experience working with XML data structures and serialization libraries.
  • Prior leadership experience in system architecture, design reviews, or mentoring.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, tech blogs, or engineering communities.
