EvenUp is on a mission to close the justice gap using technology and AI. We empower personal injury lawyers and victims to get the justice they deserve. Our products enable law firms to secure faster settlements, higher payouts, and better outcomes for victims injured through no fault of their own in vehicle collisions, accidents, natural disasters, and more.

We are one of the fastest-growing vertical SaaS companies in history, and we are just getting started. EvenUp is backed by top VCs, including Bessemer Venture Partners, Bain Capital Ventures, SignalFire, and Lightspeed. We are looking to expand our team with talented, driven, and collaborative individuals who seek to have a lasting impact. Learn more at www.evenuplaw.com.

Our AI Platform team is looking for backend-focused Software Engineers who will join us in our mission to make LLMs more accessible and mainstream to the rest of our engineering teams. The team has already built and released some of the best legal industry large language models that extract and summarize data from documents our clients provide. This person will join a multi-disciplinary team of Data Scientists, Researchers and Software Engineers whose day-to-day work lies at the intersection of programming, LLM integration, and iterative experimentation. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take on complex engineering challenges in the field of generative AI and leverage the power of technology to bring fairness and accessibility to the legal system.
This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week spent collaborating with the team in the office. We are open to applicants located in either the San Francisco Bay Area or the Greater Toronto Area.
What you will do:

  • Deliver high-quality, maintainable code using a modern tech stack (e.g., Python, Postgres, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch) while introducing and evaluating new tools and technologies as appropriate.

  • Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of resilient, scalable systems and infrastructure that power production-grade applications including those based on large language models.

  • Set technical direction for complex projects with significant ambiguity, owning outcomes end-to-end from inception to deployment and iterative improvement.

  • Act as a force multiplier—mentoring engineers, setting engineering best practices, and elevating the technical bar across the organization.

  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, ML, and Infrastructure teams to translate abstract or high-level product needs into robust engineering solutions.

  • Influence platform and infrastructure roadmaps with a long-term view of scalability, maintainability, and developer velocity.

What we're looking for:
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a Staff or equivalent senior technical leadership role.

  • Deep expertise in building and scaling distributed systems, frameworks, and internal platforms with a focus on reliability, observability, and performance.

  • Proven experience in driving complex technical initiatives across teams or domains, with strong system design skills and clear tradeoff thinking.

  • High standards for code quality, system design, and software architecture—along with a track record of mentoring others to meet those standards.

  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or experience in additional languages such as NodeJS, GoLang, Java or C++.

  • Clear, structured communication and the ability to influence stakeholders across engineering and product functions.

  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments—ideally in startups or early-stage companies.

Bonus experience:
  • Experience in AI/ML systems, legal tech, or mission-driven, social impact-oriented engineering work.

  • Prior work with LLM-powered systems, AI platforms, or developer enablement tooling in ML-heavy environments.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
