About this role

This is a high-impact individual contributor role reporting directly to our Chief Design Officer. As our first Staff Designer, you’ll play a central part in shipping impactful designs that will contribute to improving retention and revenue. You’ll also coach others through feedback and hands-on collaboration, help us improve the standard for great design, and ensure that data-driven decisions are taken at every single opportunity.

Your focus won’t be limited to your squad. While you’ll work closely with a PM and Tech Lead to drive key areas of the product, you’ll also help shape how we design across Yubo. Your contribution will set the bar, your influence will raise it !

Do you enjoy constantly experimenting and iterating quickly? Do you care as much about impact as you do about craft? Are you the kind of person who prefers to lead by example rather than be the untouchable design guru who hasn’t designed anything in a decade? You should feel right at home.

Our approach to privacy

  • As part of your job, you will be working on tools that process personal data relating to Yubo users.
  • As a social media platform, we require our employees to have a strong awareness and understanding of privacy issues, and in particular of children's online safety, privacy and well-being.
  • Every employee at Yubo is expected to participate in compliance with data protection regulations as well as the continuous improvement of our Privacy & Safety By Design measures.

Your responsibilities

  • Co-lead a product squad alongside a PM and Tech Lead to steer discovery, delivery, and impact. Starting from hypotheses all the way to polished releases.
  • Turn KPIs into actionable design hypotheses and guide your squad toward data-informed decisions, paving the way for fast experiments over long research cycles.
  • Coach and mentor designers through weekly design critiques, giving consistent and fair feedback during but also outside of team rituals.
  • Shape the product’s design strategy by translating high-level goals into concrete design principles, and ensuring our design system scales cleanly across iOS, Android and web.
  • Identify and fix friction in our design and product development workflows

Tools we use

  • Figma
  • Amplitude
  • Notion

Who you are

  • You have significant experience designing features for high-volume consumer apps and at least 7 years of professional experience as a Product Designer.
  • Strong skills in interface design, usability principles, and design systems.
  • A product-oriented mindset: You understand the importance of data and business requirements and their impact on design without sacrificing user experience.
  • You’re comfortable working in fast-paced, collaborative environments and excel at communicating with cross-functional teams, ideally in a squad system.
  • A strong sense of ownership and autonomy, balanced with the ability to give and receive feedback constructively.
  • A passion for designing products that make a difference in the lives of millions of users.

Within a month, you will

  • Get to know your squad’s mission, goals, and current challenges
  • Meet key stakeholders across product, tech, and research
  • Audit our current user flows, pain points, and design system
  • Participate in a feature kick-off to get a feel for a full iteration cycle.

Within 3 months, you will

  • Ideate, prototype, and launch new premium flows that boost ARPU by increasing conversion and retention of paying users
  • Mentor at least one designer and provide regular feedback
  • Propose improvements to our design system or workflows

Within 6 months, you will

  • Be a go-to voice for design excellence across the org. You will be in a position to coach two seniors into autonomous squad leads and raise craft quality across teams.
  • Explore and contribute to a new market growth initiative (new DAU source + revenue stream)
  • Refresh/refine Yubo’s visual assets to maintain brand consistency and reinforce a modern, engaging look and feel
  • Explore and define how AI can power new social discovery experiences and monetization opportunities

The recruitment process

  • Phone screen with a TAM
  • First interview with Jérémie (CDO)
  • Technical test and debrief with the Product Design Team
  • Culture Fit interviews

What we offer

  • A highly competitive salary range as well as equity in the company
  • A highly flexible remote work policy, 2 days at the office per month, with monthly team events.
  • We also cover fees for external professional events and meetups (Android Makers, etc…)
  • Great health insurance coverage for both you and your family by Alan, fully paid for by Yubo !
  • Numerous benefits for parents: additional parental leave, easy access to nurseries and daycare facilities in France.

Join Yubo and help shape the future of Social Discovery while enjoying a culture that values flexibility, well-being, and impact.

Here’s how we live our mission every day:
You own the impact: Step up, adapt, and make it matter
Unconventionally Smart: Hack with intent, borrow smart, build better
Be Bold & Resilient: Raise your head, break barriers, keep moving forward
One team, one mission: No egos, no passengers, just shared wins

Trust & Flexibility: Our hybrid model calls for only two office days a month; the rest is up to the rhythm that works best for you.

Enjoy Top-notch Benefits
Culture is central at Yubo, hence the numerous benefits:
Cool Workplace: enjoy our amazing Parisian office and our many hybrid work options
Team Activities: participate in get-togethers, events, and team-building activities
Family-Friendly: we support parents with childcare options and family-friendly policies

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
