About the Role: As a Staff Product Designer focused on Growth & Commerce, you’ll take on a first-of-its-kind role at Commerce—reimagining both the internal and customer-facing experiences that power how we bill, invoice, price, package, and sell our products. You’ll lead the design of dynamic pricing and billing surfaces across the end-to-end customer journey, while also building critical internal tools that empower Gusto teams to move faster and deliver better customer outcomes.
You’ll bring deep experience in systems thinking, UX/UI design, interaction design, and service design to unify these complex surfaces into scalable, cohesive, and elegant experiences. Your work will be foundational to how Gusto presents value to customers and how our internal teams support that experience behind the scenes.
About the Team: Gusto’s Growth team is dedicated to helping customers discover, adopt, and expand into the Gusto ecosystem in meaningful ways. You’ll be joining a collaborative, cross-functional team of designers, engineers, PMs, data scientists, and key business partners who care deeply about customer experience—and who operate at the intersection of product-led growth, marketing, and sales. In this role, you'll work closely with partners across Growth & Commerce, Sales, Marketing, and BizTech, while serving as the lead designer across several interrelated surfaces and systems.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Design dynamic pricing and packaging displays that span the funnel—from acquisition through activation and billing—ensuring customers can easily understand and select the right plan or add-on for their needs.
- Lead the redesign of Gusto’s invoicing and billing surfaces, improving clarity, reducing cognitive load, and setting a scalable foundation for future plan and pricing evolution.
- Build and improve internal tools such as the Promo Engine, Product Catalog, and Billing Platform, to enable self-service for internal teams across Growth, Marketing, Accounting, and Sales.
- Improve existing tools and workflows in Gusto’s internal platforms that enable better efficiency and outcomes for our Expansion Sales team.
- Drive holistic service design, connecting the dots between how internal teams support customer decisions and how customers experience pricing and billing throughout their journey.
- Collaborate deeply with cross-functional partners to align on strategy, lead workshops, and co-create end-to-end solutions across multiple surfaces.
- Create scalable, consistent patterns by working with and contributing to Gusto’s design system to ensure alignment across internal and external experiences.
- Use a mix of data and qualitative insights to validate decisions, inform tradeoffs, and refine designs over time through iteration.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- 8+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio of systems-level design, internal tooling, and customer-facing product surfaces.
- Experience working on complex, data-rich products—particularly in B2B SaaS environments with interconnected product offerings.
- Demonstrated success in designing for both internal users and external customers, and the ability to balance their competing needs.
- Fluency in UX best practices, UI design, interaction design, and accessibility standards.
- Strong service design capabilities and a proven ability to map and simplify complex systems across touchpoints and orgs.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead through influence and align cross-functional teams.
- Comfort leading ambiguous, 0-to-1 work, and building long-term vision while executing toward near-term milestones.
- Experience using tools like Figma, Amplitude, and FullStory—and in leveraging mixed-methods research to inform design.
- Passion for empowering internal teams and improving the quality of internal systems through intuitive, scalable design.
Nice to haves:
- Familiarity with Salesforce or internal admin tool design.
- Experience with pricing, packaging, billing, or financial systems.
- Background in growth, experimentation, or performance-driven design.
- Experience working with or supporting Sales, BizOps, or Customer Support functions.
