Life insurance is one of the world's most important products. It's also one of the hardest to build, distribute, and modernize. Bestow exists to change that.
Bestow is a leading vertical technology platform serving some of the largest and most innovative life insurers. Our platform unifies the fragmented, legacy value chain, enabling carriers to launch products in weeks instead of years. Carriers choose us to scale and operate at unprecedented speed, powered by AI and automation.
Bestow isn't selling policies. We're building the infrastructure that helps an entire industry move faster, reach more people, and deliver on its promise.
Backed by leading investors (Goldman Sachs, Hedosophia, NEA, Valar, 8VC) and trusted by major carriers, Bestow is powered by a team that moves with precision, purpose, and heart. If you want to help reimagine a centuries-old industry with lasting impact, join us.
Bestow offers flexible remote/hybrid work, meaningful benefits, equity, and substantial growth opportunities.
Bestow participates in the E-Verify Program.
ABOUT THE TEAMLabs is a team within Bestow incubating experimental products at the frontier of insurance technology and AI. We are full-stack with the autonomy to explore greenfield opportunities—and successful products are integrated into Bestow's core platform. Our focus is on meeting the needs of our enterprise customers and growing user base to transform how millions of people access life insurance.
We move fast, embrace ambiguity, and use AI as a force multiplier. Our role is to validate ideas quickly, demonstrate what's possible, and inform production roadmaps with working prototypes.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives in rapid-prototyping environments and leverages AI to build faster and smarter. You'll work at the intersection of product innovation, domain expertise, and cutting-edge technology—turning ambiguous ideas into working demos that can either be hardened for production or inform the next generation of our platform.
This isn't about writing perfect code. It's about shipping working solutions quickly, iterating based on feedback, and knowing when to refactor vs. when to ship. You'll work alongside product managers, solution architects, actuaries, and domain experts to validate hypotheses and push the boundaries of what's possible in insurance technology.
If you're an engineer with enterprise SaaS experience who has shifted into AI-first development and wants to work on high-impact, fast-moving projects with real-world applications, this role is for you.
WHAT YOU'LL DORapidly prototype and iterate on AI-driven insurance products and experimental features
Own end-to-end delivery of prototypes and MVPs in a scrappy, fast-paced labs environment
Turn ambiguous product ideas into working demos by collaborating with product, solution architects, and domain experts
Leverage AI tools (LLMs, copilots, code generators) to accelerate development and explore novel approaches
Build full-stack applications with usable UIs, robust APIs, and integrations with third-party services
Make pragmatic tradeoff decisions between speed and maintainability, knowing when prototypes need hardening
Provision and manage cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred) to support rapid experimentation
Communicate clearly about technical risks, feasibility, and what's realistically achievable in short timeframes
Collaborate across functions with limited hand-holding, bringing ideas to life with minimal direction
Help define what "production-ready" looks like when prototypes transition to the core platform
Core Attributes
You're an engineer with enterprise SaaS experience who has shifted into AI-first development
You thrive in ambiguity and are comfortable context-switching between multiple projects
You're highly self-sufficient and can move quickly without heavy PM or architect support
You have strong opinions, loosely held—you know how to make pragmatic decisions and iterate based on feedback
You understand the difference between prototype code and production code, and when each is appropriate
Required Experience
10+ years of professional software development experience with a track record of shipping complex systems or features
Full-stack development expertise:
Backend: Strong proficiency in Python and/or Go; experience designing APIs, services, and integrations
Frontend: Proficiency in React or similar modern frameworks; able to build usable demo UIs quickly
Databases: Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and at least one NoSQL solution
Cloud & DevOps:
Hands-on experience with GCP (preferred) or AWS
Comfortable provisioning environments, deploying services, and debugging in cloud-native setups
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, observability, and monitoring tools
AI-assisted development:
Actively uses AI tools (ClaudeCode, Codex, etc.) in day-to-day development
Able to stitch together APIs, services, and AI models quickly to validate ideas
Understands how to leverage AI for productivity while maintaining code quality
Strongly Preferred
Insurance domain knowledge: Experience working with life insurers, insurtechs, or understanding of insurance products (policies, riders, underwriting, etc.)
Experience building or implementing life/annuity insurance administration systems (e.g., FAST, DXC, Sapiens, OIPA, ALIP)
Experience working in a startup or "labs" environment with rapid iteration cycles
Nice to Have
Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or event-driven architectures
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or container orchestration
Background in fintech, regulated industries, or B2B SaaS platforms
