Job Title: Staff Engineer – Full Stack

Location: Greater Boston (Hybrid)

About Us

Synquery is redefining how expert insights are accessed and applied. Backed by leading VCs including Audacious Ventures, Afore Capital, and Caesar Ventures, we’re building an AI-native expert network that connects clients to expertise with unmatched speed, precision, and efficiency.

We’ve designed our platform from the ground up for the age of AI—powering features like AI-driven interviewing agents and AI based expert sourcing/search.

With a proven MVP and growing traction, we’re expanding our team to scale the platform and build the future of expert insight. If you're passionate about shaping AI-first products, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Staff Engineer, you’ll define and implement the core systems powering Synquery. You’ll work hands-on across the stack, contribute to architectural decisions, and guide product-aligned engineering efforts.

You’ll also help establish our technical standards, influence hiring, and mentor teammates. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer excited to wear multiple hats—builder, architect, leader—and make foundational contributions to a fast-moving AI product.

Responsibilities

  • Build Core Systems: Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software solutions.

  • Contribute to the Architecture: Contribute to the technical architecture decisions to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance of our systems.

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product, design, and ML teams to translate business goals into robust features.

  • Advise and Guide: Provide technical guidance when needed to less experienced engineers and help shape a high-performance, collaborative culture.

  • Innovate: Leverage emerging technologies in AI/ML, generative AI, and hybrid search to enhance product capabilities.

  • Shape Engineering Culture: As a founding team member, influence team practices, tooling, and values from the ground up.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years in full-stack software development, ideally with experience in early-stage or high-growth startups.

  • Technical Stack: Proficiency in Python (FastAPI), TypeScript (Next.js), PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker. Experience with LLM APIs (GPT, Claude, etc.) and/or vector DBs (e.g., Pinecone) is a big plus.

  • Product Mindset: Strong collaboration with product teams, with an ability to balance speed, quality, and user impact.

  • Startup Experience: A dynamic, entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving. Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a “get-it-done” attitude.

  • Problem-Solving: Skilled at designing resilient systems and debugging complex issues in live environments.

  • Team Collaboration: Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with team members from varied cultural backgrounds.

  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to clearly communicate to both technical and to a lesser extent business audiences.

What We Offer

  • High Impact Role: Be a pivotal contributor to Synquery’s growth and success.

  • Career Growth: Opportunities for rapid advancement as the company scales.

  • Equity Ownership: Meaningful equity options.

  • Competitive Compensation: Competitive salary with flexible work arrangements.

  • Supportive Culture: A collaborative team that values diversity, innovation, and mutual respect.

  • Continuous Learning: Opportunities for professional development and working on cutting-edge technologies.
