The Data Platform organization powers some of the most critical systems at WHOOP — from ingesting sensor data and powering machine learning models, to enabling business analytics and delivering critical member insights. As a Staff DevOps Engineer, you will shape the cloud infrastructure that enables these capabilities at scale. You will drive forward secure, resilient, and scalable systems in AWS, while influencing infrastructure strategy and best practices across the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, development, and operation of cloud infrastructure for the WHOOP Data Platform, ensuring scalability, security, reliability, and cost efficiency across AWS environments.
- Implement best practice infrastructure-as-code with tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, and AWS CDK to manage resources, automate deployments, and enforce compliance guardrails.
- Architect internal frameworks for secure data workflows, including encryption at rest/in transit, IAM policies, logging, and audit mechanisms.
- Enhance CI/CD tooling and platform automation for data services, analytics pipelines, and machine learning workflows across development and production environments.
- Champion observability and incident response practices, including monitoring, alerting, on-call workflows, and post-incident reviews.
- Mentor engineers across teams on cloud best practices, DevOps principles, and secure infrastructure design patterns.
- Own cross-organization initiatives that improve team velocity and infrastructure reliability at scale.
- Partner closely with Data Engineering, ML Operations, Security, and Compliance teams to translate regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) into actionable operational controls.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 8+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, SRE, or related roles with increasing scope and responsibility.
- Deep hands-on expertise with AWS infrastructure, including services like IAM, VPC, EC2, EKS, S3, RDS, Lambda. Experience with multi-account architectures is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in infrastructure-as-code frameworks such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
- Strong background in CI/CD pipeline development, infrastructure automation, and platform operations at scale.
- Proven experience building and maintaining compliant systems aligned with standards like HIPAA and GDPR.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a history of guiding decisions across engineering, data, and security teams.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and influence engineers to raise infrastructure and operational standards.
- Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

At WHOOP, we view total compensation as the combination of base salary, equity, and benefits, with equity serving as a key differentiator that aligns our employees with the long-term success of the company and allows every member of our corporate team to own part of WHOOP and share in the company’s long-term growth and success.
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $170,000-$230,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
