Meet the Moment with Alteryx

We're living through a once-in-a-generation shift in how work gets done. Data, automation, and AI are quickly becoming the center of every business decision - and Alteryx is leading the transformation.

You'll be working on the challenges that sit at the heart of modern business. No matter your role, the work you do will help organizations move faster, see more clearly, and tackle questions that used to feel impossible.

If you're ready to meet the moment with innovation, curiosity, and excellence, there's a place for you here.

Alteryx is searching for a Staff Developer Platform Engineer. This position is remote-friendly.

Position Overview:

Alteryx is searching for a Staff Developer Platform Engineer to help drive infrastructure, pipeline, and deployment excellence across our engineering organizations. This position will be based in the USA, working closely with Developer Platform & Enablement to build the systems and safeguards that let product teams ship quickly and safely.

As a Staff Developer Platform Engineer, you will own infrastructure, pipeline, and release-safety work spanning several areas of Developer Platform & Enablement:

  • Developer Experience — GitLab operations, build/release operations, AI SDLC systems, and developer tooling.
  • DevOps / Foundlings — pipeline orchestration and progressive delivery built on Argo Rollouts and Kargo.
  • Loaders & Strikers — DevOps support for our third-party connectors team (ODBC and similar connectors).
  • FinSights — developer insights and FinOps.

You'll also help drive improvements to quality-of-life toolsets. You'll work as a peer to our existing Staff Engineers, closing coverage gaps in infrastructure and cloud platform work rather than duplicating their architecture/DevEx focus, and will bring enough product-management-adjacent instinct to drive org-wide adoption of what you build.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evolve GitLab at scale within GCP/GKE, including governance, permissions, runners, and pipeline infrastructure, as part of our broader Developer Experience and build/release operations.
  • Design and implement pipeline orchestration and progressive-delivery systems built on Argo Rollouts and Kargo, including auto-promote/auto-rollback patterns.
  • Partner with our Connectors teams on DevOps for third-party connectors (ODBC and similar), including their build, release, and deployment pipelines.
  • Contribute to FinSights: developer insights and FinOps tooling and practices.
  • Design and oversee buildout of deployment and release-safety practices for large, distributed cloud systems, including clear guidance on when it's safe to roll back versus roll forward.
  • Partner with engineering teams on safe database change management and recovery processes for production systems.
  • Drive adoption and continuous improvement of quality-of-life toolsets, alongside AI SDLC systems and other developer tooling. Toolset focuses include: agentic code review systems, internal developer platforms, AI ROI analytics systems, and localdev/ephemeral environment systems.
  • Build and evangelize self-service tooling that makes safe deployment and recovery practices easy enough for teams to actually adopt and love.
  • Coach and mentor engineers across teams on deployment safety, pipeline design, and infrastructure best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with peer Staff Engineers to identify and close coverage gaps across the Developer Platform (and greater Engineering Enablement scope).
  • Translate architects' longer-range direction on pipeline systems and orchestration into concrete technical plans and hands-on execution.
  • Bring product-management-adjacent thinking — roadmapping, stakeholder alignment, adoption strategy — to drive org-wide uptake of new platform tooling and practices.

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps/Platform Engineer, or SRE, with demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact.
  • Deep, hands-on experience administering GitLab (or a comparable SCM/CI platform) at scale, ideally within a self-hosted ecosystem (GCP/GKE or AWS/EKS/EC2).
  • Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD pipeline and orchestration systems, including progressive-delivery tooling (Argo Rollouts, Kargo, or similar).
  • Strong track record managing safe deployment, rollback, and recovery processes for large, distributed cloud systems, including database change management.
  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred).
  • Experience coaching and mentoring engineers, and driving adoption of new tooling and practices across teams.
  • Excellent cross-team collaboration and communication skills, with comfort partnering with architects and peer Staff Engineers to define technical direction across a broad, multi-team surface area (Developer Experience, DevOps, connector/DevOps teams, and FinOps-adjacent insights).
  • Willingness to occasionally participate in meetings with US-based and EMEA-based teams outside of standard local hours, given the distributed nature of the Developer Platform team.

Valued Skills:

  • Experience with AI-assisted tooling and automation in a platform engineering context (AI SDLC systems).
  • Familiarity with test infrastructure, testing at scale, or observability/tracing.
  • Exposure to third-party database connector ecosystems (ODBC or similar).
  • Familiarity with FinOps practices and developer productivity insights/metrics.
  • Hands-on familiarity with quality-of-life developer tooling.
  • Background in software architecture or async systems.
  • Product-management-adjacent experience (roadmapping, driving adoption, stakeholder

Compensation:

The salary range for this role in the United States is $183,125 - $200,450.

In addition, you may be eligible for additional compensation, such as a bonus. Employees may also be eligible for a wide range of other benefits, including medical, retirement, financial, wellness, time off, employee discounts, and others.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
