About This Role
Our Accounting team is seeking an entrepreneurial-minded Staff Accountant to join our collaborative team of professionals who are preserving and building affordable multi-family affordable housing throughout the United States. The Staff Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities that have a direct impact on the corporate-level financial operations.
In this position, you will report to the Accounting Manager in both project accounting and corporate accounting. This role is based in our Santa Monica HQ and is hybrid (3 days in the office).
What You’ll Do
- Daily entry and process of invoices/ electronic payments
- Daily entry of cash activity to mirror activity at multiple banks
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and corporate credit card reconciliations
- Prepare fixed asset and prepaid amortizations as well as period-end accruals
- Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries to support the month, quarter and year-end close process for several entities
- Support the team in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements verifying the accuracy of the general ledger
- Work with external auditors for completion of annual audit
- Prepare intercompany eliminations for quarterly consolidated financial statements
- Reconcile draft closing statement to reimbursable pursuit costs prior to closing a deal
- Review and process expense reports – ensure compliance with expense policy guidelines and all required documentation is collected
- File 1099s after close of the fiscal year
- Monitor and input daily cash activity and corporate AP requests
What You Bring
- Ability to quickly obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the various financial reporting and general ledger structures.
- Experience in general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- A high level of professionalism and integrity in dealing with confidential issues.
- Ability to stay organized, meet key target dates, and produce deliverables.
- Ability to identify problems and engage in problem-solving.
- Aptitude for creating strong internal relationships within LAC. Must be a strong collaborator among peer groups within the company.
- Passionate about the company's double-bottom-line mission: generating appropriate returns for investors and managing great, stable communities for our residents.
Your Education and Experience
- 2-3 years of in-house accounting experience
- Bachelors or higher degree in accounting and/or finance
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
- Experience with Yardi preferred but not required
- Strong accounting, analytical, and organizational skills
Benefits & Compensation
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience. In addition to the base salary, employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package:
