Summary
QuEra is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead program management activities around product and service delivery of QuEra’s quantum computers, starting with Aquila and Gemini, and extending to future generations of QuEra systems.
This role is execution-oriented and inherently cross-functional, coordinating work across hardware and software engineering, research and operations. The role includes limited product management responsibilities, scoped to requirements collection and feedback, and is expected to work collaboratively with future dedicated product management hires.
This role is designed to fulfill these goals, and to evolve as the company grows and the needs change:
- Ensure reliable delivery and operation of gate-based quantum computers,
- Establish a structured feedback loop from customers and users back into engineering, and align customer projects for success,
- Support the product development work on QuEra’s systems towards industrial-grade, TRL=9 platforms, through disciplined program execution,
- Enable progress tracking and transparent communication across all stakeholders.
Year 1 focus
The main focus in year 1 will be to support the success of QuEra’s overall AIST program which consists of 4 threads centered around our first gate-based system Gemini:
- [Product] Launching two product lines on top of the on-prem Gemini machine at AIST: Gemini-QEC, a platform for error correction researchers, and Gemini-NISQ, a platform for NISQ-era application developers. Initial product launches will be followed by planned upgrades and feature releases in quick succession.
- [Customers & Projects] Enabling the success of concrete customers and customer projects on the Gemini machine at AIST, which divide into preview projects (leading up to each product/feature release and leveraging close collaboration with the machine team), and GA projects (following each product/feature release and utilizing the generally available capabilities). Customer success in this context will depend on a fine balance of customer experience, data quality, and timely execution of project phases.
- [Integration] Completing system integration with access/distribution partners, in two modalities: HPC integration, and cloud integration.
- [Development] Achieving milestones in the NEDO program focused on developing the hardware and software systems towards industrial-grade quantum computers by 2030. This development work is not independent of, but rather on the critical path for 1-3.
Key responsibilities
- Product:
- Translate high-level product goals and technical roadmap into executable plans, milestones, and dependencies.
- Track risks, schedules, and cross-team deliverables to ensure on-time, high-quality outcomes.
- Customers & Projects
- Act as the program coordination point for customer co-design and onboarding efforts.
- Ensure customer expectations, constraints, and feedback are clearly communicated and tracked.
- Support technical teams by managing structure, timelines, and communication.
- Integration:
- Act as the program coordination point for integration activities, including alignment efforts and end-to-end tests.
- Collect and synthesize requirements from integration partners and stakeholders, spanning functional and non-functional requirements (e.g. API payload vs API security).
- Development:
- Align timelines, requirements and dependencies, with awareness of product, business and operational constraints.
- Track progress and support documentation efforst.
- Support reporting efforst for external stakeholders (e.g. NEDO program management).
- Contribute to QuEra’s readiness for scaling gate-based quantum computing beyond Gemini, including operational and organizational considerations.
Qualification & Profile
Required:
- Engineering background (e.g., semiconductor, systems engineering, advanced computing infrastructure).
- Experience in technical program management, system delivery, or execution of complex technical products.
- Strong ability to coordinate across multiple teams and external stakeholders.
- Comfort in customer-facing, execution-oriented roles.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with on-premise deployments and security/network-constrained environments.
- Exposure to quantum computing, HPC, or advanced computing platforms.
- Experience working with government, national lab, or research customers.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical domains quickly.
