About Buoy Software

At Buoy, we are reimagining the blood-product donation and collection experience in an industry that has been largely untouched by advances in technology for decades. Our software creates huge impact by making blood product-derived biotherapies more accessible, creating employment opportunities in communities with limited resources, and increasing the supply of blood-products in a market with compounding demand.

About The Role

We're seeking an entrepreneurial Senior Solutions Architect who thrives in bringing structure to ambiguity and can execute with a high degree of ownership and precision. As the first hire dedicated to this function, you’ll pioneer our enterprise implementation approach, working across product, engineering, and customers to ensure our solutions are technically sound, scalable, and tailored to deliver on customer needs. This role will partner and collaborate closely with our external customers, our executive team, and product pods.

This role blends technical implementation leadership with product strategy, customer discovery, and program management. You’ll own the delivery of high-impact customer initiatives end-to-end—from driving customer discovery sessions and aligning internal teams, to managing project timelines, alignment with our customers on the work being built, and drafting executive-ready documentation. You’ll serve as the connective tissue across the organization, ensuring clarity, accountability, and shared understanding from initial scoping through launch.

You'll build the foundation for how we implement our solutions at scale, develop standardized processes, and create frameworks that enable our customers and internal team to be successful.

We’re looking for someone who brings systems thinking, strong technical and product intuition, and exceptional communication skills to navigate complexity, align stakeholders, and consistently move work forward—even in the face of evolving priorities and incomplete information. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who’s comfortable navigating complexity, collaborating across stakeholders of all levels, and owning projects end to end with a high degree of precision and attention to detail.

Where you'll be

We are a fully remote company and deeply believe in distributed teams. We build around motivated individuals and give them the support, trust, and environment needed to thrive.

We are currently only hiring candidates based in the United States, with a strong preference for those in New York City or Austin, TX, due to frequent in-person customer meetings in these regions.

Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in technical implementation, solutions architecture, or product management
  • 3+ years of experience working with enterprise customers and their technical environments
  • Strong technical fluency and systems thinking—ability to understand and explain complex workflows
  • Experience working across product and software engineering teams to align on priorities and support execution

What you'll do as a Sr. Solutions Architect at Buoy...

  • Partner with customers and internal teams to clarify user stories, map technical requirements, and align on integration strategies
  • Partner cross-functionally with customers, product pods, engineering, and operations teams from discovery through implementation to ensure long-term success
  • Facilitate working sessions and executive meetings; document next steps, decisions, and requirements with a high degree of polish and presence
  • Drive customer discovery to deeply understand user stories, clarify requirements, and identify problems to be solved
  • Support technical evaluations with customer stakeholders and ensure shared understanding of API specifications, integration points, and dependencies
  • Develop and document implementation frameworks, best practices, and playbooks that can scale across our customer base
  • Work as a connector across product pods to coordinate features and ensure alignment with customer implementation needs
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and interface strategies for enterprise integrations

Why you should be excited about this opportunity:

  • You will be the first dedicated hire in this function, with the opportunity to shape how Buoy approaches enterprise implementations
  • You will create structure and processes in an entrepreneurial environment, establishing the foundation for future team growth
  • You will work at the intersection of product and implementation, influencing product direction while ensuring customer success
  • You will build credibility across functions and levels, from software engineers and product managers to C-level executives
  • You will drive business outcomes by creating scalable, customer-focused technical artifacts like reference architectures
  • You will help shape our product ecosystem by bringing customer insights back into our development process

In the first 30 days as a Sr. Solutions Architect at Buoy, you will...

  • Ramp on Buoy’s architecture, products, terminology, and planning process
  • Meet with product pod leads to understand current functionality, roadmap priorities and open questions
  • Begin developing the initial framework for customer discovery and implementation processes
  • Shadow customer interactions to understand current implementation challenges and opportunities
  • Start building relationships with key internal stakeholders across product, engineering, and customer success
  • Travel to meet with customers and their executive teams to begin to build trusted relationships, understand their goals and technical environments, and align on integration strategies that set the foundation for long-term success
  • Visit and shadow employees at a plasma collection center to learn about end users of our product, their process, and needs

In the first 60 days as a Sr. Solutions Architect at Buoy, you will...

  • Independently lead customer discovery sessions and document detailed requirements
  • Stand up repeatable documentation and project tracking processes
  • Identify recurring customer pain points and technical challenges that could inform product development
  • Identify systemic blockers to implementation and partner with product teams to address them
  • Embed yourself as a lead in daily customer touchpoints and begin contributing directly to requirement gathering and alignment

In the first 90 days as a Sr. Solutions Architect at Buoy, you will...

  • Develop scalable implementation artifacts—reference architectures, interface strategies, process diagrams
  • Influence customer and product priorities through thoughtful framing of business impact and technical feasibility
  • Serve as the connective thread between customers and internal teams, ensuring shared clarity and alignment on delivery plans
  • Develop technical artifacts to document technical proposals to support customer alignment and implementation success
  • Champion improvements to Buoy’s ways of working across internal and external teams
  • Travel to meet with customers and their executive teams to begin to continue to build trusted relationships, understand their goals and technical environments, and align on integration strategies that set the foundation for long-term success.

Qualities that will make you successful:

  • Operational Excellence - You own timelines, track details rigorously, and drive results through ambiguity
  • Entrepreneurial mindset - You take initiative, create structure from scratch, and continuously look for ways to improve how we work. You thrive in environments where you can create order from chaos
  • Polished Communicator – You tailor your communication to your audience—whether you’re drafting a customer update or leading a requirements session
  • Customer obsessed - You're a passionate communicator, advisor, and advocate for the customer. You listen and learn from our customers and use their context to inform decisions and tradeoffs
  • High judgment - You make thoughtful decisions with limited information, balance competing priorities effectively. You know when to escalate, when to push forward, and how to manage risk thoughtfully
  • Trust builder - You establish credibility quickly with both customers and internal teams through consistency, transparency, and delivering on commitments
  • Integrator instinct - You connect dots across teams to bring people together and look around corners to anticipate downstream impacts
  • Thrive in complexity - You can navigate the complexities of enterprise implementations and a highly regulated industry
  • Manage ambiguity - You're comfortable with shifting priorities and can adjust quickly while helping teams reprioritize
  • Have a point of view - You hold strong opinions, loosely held, and work collaboratively to find the best solutions for our business and customers
  • High trust collaborator - You earn the confidence of stakeholders at all levels through reliability, honesty, and a track record of making well-reasoned decisions that put the team's success first
  • Technical acumen - You can dive into technical details while maintaining focus on business outcomes and elevating your explanation for your audience
  • Systems thinker - You understand how different parts of the product ecosystem interact and impact each other
  • Product Sense - You have strong product sense and can translate customer needs into product requirements to influence our product and technology
