The Sr. Salesforce Engineer brings passion, enthusiasm, and a growth mind-set to Thrivent’s Engineering Culture. Collaborates with team members to ensure quality solution delivery. Responsible for implementation, execution, and maintenance of technology solutions to mitigate risk and drive business results. Provides development expertise on mid-large sized projects to solve complex problems.
The Sr. Salesforce Engineer will have exposure to both the Sales and Service Cloud functionality within the Salesforce Platform. This person is responsible for designing, documenting, building (configuration and customization), unit testing, implementation, and maintenance of functionality that meets the needs identified by business partners. Successful candidates will have experience with large implementations along with a broad knowledge of the Salesforce and associated capabilities. The ideal candidate will also have strong skills in integration patterns and development in technologies off the Salesforce platform.
Position Roles / Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Solution Architecture / Systems Design
Review and understand documented user stories.
Partner with Lead Salesforce Engineer to define and develop solutions that ensure alignment with industry best practices, technical strategies, and priorities.
Consistent and dependable in delivering core technology solutions that deliver outcomes and meets/exceeds the teams expectations for stability, scalability, resilience, etc.
Application Implementation & Maintenance
Implement new features and enhancements using established development standards and approved change‑management processes.
Conduct unit testing and collaborate closely with Quality Assurance Engineers to support functional and performance testing across Salesforce and integrated applications.
Provide ongoing support for service requests, routine maintenance tasks, and general application operations.
Continuously evaluate and improve technology solutions to ensure software stability, scalability, and resilience.
Leverage automation tools to streamline testing, optimize workflows, and drive process improvements.
Support observability and monitoring tools to ensure system health and deliver proactive issue detection and notifications.
Leadership
Provide guidance to junior engineers helping them learn foundational engineering skills.
Provide domain expertise on software products in their area to junior engineers to help them learn/grow their skills and contribute as part of the team.
Provide technical expertise and help the team problem solve technical/software issues.
Actively participate in the technology community through forums, events, and/or open-source or personal project contributions.
Position Qualifications
5+ years of experience working in a Salesforce engineering environment.
Deep expertise in Salesforce Sales Cloud and Service Cloud; experience with Marketing Cloud or Financial Services Cloud is a strong plus.
Proficiency in Apex (Classes, Triggers, Batch Apex), JavaScript, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Visualforce, and integration technologies including REST, SOAP, Change Data Capture, Platform Events, SOQL, and SOSL.
Hands‑on experience with Salesforce configuration and automation tools, such as custom objects, workflow approvals, Flow, Process Builder, and Data Loader.
3+ years of recent experience with several integration or platform technologies, such as Java, REST/SOAP APIs, Spring Boot, Confluent Kafka, Change Data Capture, Platform Events, OpenShift, Docker, TC Server, and messaging queues (RabbitMQ, IBM MQ).
Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices, including tools like Visual Studio Code or IntelliJ, Salesforce CLI, Git, GitHub/GitHub Actions, and Jira.
Strong ability to troubleshoot issues across Salesforce and connected systems, including sharing/visibility challenges, bulk DML operations, Apex errors, and external callouts.
Experience working in an Agile environment, collaborating directly with product owners and business stakeholders.
Salesforce Administrator and Developer certifications preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in documenting technical solutions.
Demonstrated ability and motivation to learn new technologies and development tools.
A creative, solution‑oriented mindset with the ability to apply innovative approaches to software design.
