Role: QA Engineer

Description: As a Senior QA Engineer at Blackthorn, you will be part of an elite team, testing solutions that solve our most critical business priorities. You will work closely with various departments to understand our customers' most pressing needs and provide technical expertise to optimize our testing, prevent issues, and ensure we deliver high quality products. This role requires advanced skills in test automation, performance testing, and mentoring junior team members.

Base Salary: $5,750 - $7,000 USD per month

What you’ll do

  • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Review tickets (bugs, enhancements, new features) and other technical documents to engage in each phase of the software development lifecycle
  • Create, run, repair, manual, and automated tests using frameworks like Playwright
  • Plan and build automated testing frameworks that integrate with development workflows - determining what to automate (regression tests, API endpoints, critical user flows) and when to run which tests
  • Estimate, prioritize, plan, coordinate, and perform quality testing activities
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional scrum teams and across the larger company
  • Demonstrate best practices in everything you do, including meaningful test coverage and striving to ensure maintainability
  • Mentor junior QA team members and advocate for quality standards
  • Design and maintain test data strategies, including creating hundreds of thousands of Salesforce records for performance testing, managing data versions, and ensuring clean test environments
  • Design and execute performance testing strategies to identify system bottlenecks, load limits, and optimization opportunities using appropriate testing tools
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Cumulus CI, MetaDeploy) to provide fast feedback on code changes and act as deployment gates

What we look for

  • 5+ years of software testing experience with demonstrated expertise in test automation
  • 3+ years of testing on the Salesforce platform with a deep understanding of platform limitations
  • Experience with test automation frameworks, particularly Playwright
  • Proficiency in programming languages for test automation
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and processes (GitHub Actions, Cumulus CI, MetaDeploy preferred)
  • Performance testing experience with relevant tools
  • Experience testing mobile applications using emulators, simulators, or cloud device farms with automation frameworks
  • Experience managing test data lifecycles and keeping test environments synchronized with code deployments through version control systems
  • Excellent English communication skills with proven ability to collaborate across departments, time zones, and remote teams
  • Self-directed and adaptable: stays current with testing methodologies, maintains composure under pressure, and thrives in fast-paced remote environments
  • Bonus: Salesforce admin or Blackthorn product experience

About Blackthorn

Blackthorn turns any organization's Salesforce® CRM into event planning software powered by their connected data. We're a growing, distributed team with teammates across the globe, and we build Salesforce-native tools that help teams create events, engage attendees, process payments, and measure success — all without leaving their CRM. Our customers range from tiny nonprofits to global corporations, and our products are known for going live in hours, not weeks. We believe the best enterprise software should feel as intuitive as the apps you use every day.

Why our work matters

Most event management tools force teams to juggle disconnected systems, wrestle with flimsy integrations, and spend more time syncing data than planning events. We're building the alternative: a connected platform inside Salesforce that gives organizations richer analytics to prove event ROI, better attendee experiences through personalization and automation, and the flexibility to fit any workflow. Every feature we ship helps our customers spend less time on logistics and more time on the events themselves.

What the job will bring you

A deep level of satisfaction through ownership of your role. You'll get more autonomy than at other companies (our team has told us). Connection. Our team is tightly knit, assisted through occasional team meetups (as we're remote). Challenge. We're trying to move as quickly as possible. This is not for you if you want to sit back and chill. As Ray Dalio says about life, "Meaningful work and meaningful relationships" provide meaning to life. We aim to bring this.

While we are a remote-first culture, we are currently only able to accept applicants in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, SD, TX, VA, WA, and WI
