About Backblaze

Backblaze is the object storage leader in the open cloud movement, fueling customer success with cloud storage built purposefully to unlock budgets, unburden administrators, and unleash innovators. Together with our partners, we’re helping customers break free from the restrictive, overpriced legacy solutions that hold them back, and blaze forward with the full power of the open cloud in their hands.

Founded in 2007, we scaled the business with less than $3 million in outside funding until 2021, when we did a traditional IPO on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Today, Backblaze generates over $100m in revenue and is the leading specialized storage cloud - managing over three billion gigabytes of data storage for 500K+ customers in 175+ countries, including businesses, developers, IT professionals, and individuals.
But while there is a lot to celebrate in our past, there is almost as much opportunity ahead of us. We are seeking a Sr. Product Manager!

About the Role:

Backblaze’s B2 Cloud Storage is a disruptive offering in the market, offering AWS S3 compatibility and excellent performance at 80% less. The Sr. Product Manager for B2 will work closely with key stakeholders to understand the evolution of cloud storage and the customer problems in the space and determine the product strategies to address those problems. He or she will work independently to lead the efforts for new features and improvements to execute on those strategies. Understanding customer problems through interviews and market research and translating them into requirements is critical. Partner relationships are important as well and the Sr. Product Manager will play a major role in driving and supporting partner integrations that require product support.

What You’ll Do:

  • Use the B2 Cloud Storage product with our integration partner’s products.
  • Understand the public cloud and data protection landscape and see how the market is transforming.
  • Talk to customers and understand their needs and pains and record that gold.
  • Prioritize features based on business goals, customer needs, and resource capacity.
  • Develop and maintain a near- and long-term strategy for the product line.
  • Create, manage and evangelize product roadmaps to cross-departmental key stakeholders.
  • Participate in go-to-market plans, working and guiding product marketing, sales engineering and sales on technical solutions and approaches.
  • Define, live and breathe product KPIs.

The Right Fit:

  • 5+ years of product management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven success in owning product roadmaps, defining MVPs, and driving the complete product life cycle
  • Expertise in cloud computing and storage, such as AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, or Ceph
  • Strong grasp of cloud architecture, APIs, and security and compliance
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Programming ability in any language is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with AI tools to accelerate product management process
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in agile development environments and tools such as Jira

At this point, we hope you're feeling excited about the job description you're reading. Even if you don't meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply. Learning, developing, and growing are key parts of our culture. We're eager to meet people who believe in our mission and can contribute to our team in various ways. What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
