Job Summary:

Teledyne FLIR is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our Surveillance Systems Division and work with a diversified team across multiple locations on high performance imaging and laser systems. The position will require mechanical technical expertise in design, analysis, and testing.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design opto-mechanical parts and assemblies with SolidWorks.

  • Geometric Tolerancing per ANSI/ASME Y14.5M.

  • Perform thermal and stress analysis using SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS Workbench.

  • Responsible for the mechanical specifications and planning related to electro-optical system design.

  • Test complex opto-mechanical mechanisms and optical systems.

  • Effectively communicate among cross discipline teams located in multiple sites.  

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering required (Masters preferred)

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering design and/or analysis (experience with opto-mechanical parts and assemblies highly preferred)

  • Experience with Gimbal (or Pan and Tilt) mechanism design a significant plus.

  • Work experience with Servo Systems for motion control required.

  • Experience working with Optical Systems (IR Optical a plus).

  • General experience with MIL-STD-810 and Ingress Protection (IP) sealed systems.

  • Designing with a solid modeling CAD program (SolidWorks and EPDM a plus).

  • Solid understanding of FEA Analysis, ANSYS Workbench experience preferred, experience with thermal analysis and random vibration analysis a plus.

  • Ability to apply high level principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and solid knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced, technically challenging environment.

  • Able and willing to travel approximately 5% domestically

  • Violation free driving record and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
