About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to aid in the design, assembly, testing, and optimization of our system. Fourier engineers work in a hands-on, collaborative environment to solve problems and push progress forward. Qualified candidates should have prior hands-on experience working in a mechanical lab or industrial company. 

Roles and responsibilities
  • Design and build prototypes and product encasing 

  • Create detailed design of mechanical structures and assemblies and work with appropriate manufacturers 

  • Facilitate selection of the optimal hardware components (sensors, pipes, valves, etc.) from external suppliers 

  • Create and maintain Balance of Plant cost/Bill of Materials 

  • Assess failure modes that involve thermal/structural/electrical/chemical/fluid interactions 

  • Problem solve and risk mitigation 

  • Oversee the assembly and setup of benchtop test rigs, prototypes, and production units

Qualifications

Required: 

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 

  • 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Hands-on experience assembling mechanical systems

  • Experience designing and building structures, from 3D CAD and/or 2D drawings through fabrication and assembly

  • Experience designing and developing cost-effective solutions 

Preferred: 

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field 

  • Experience in the following areas: 

    • Hands-on work with gas and/or water piping 

    • FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis) 

    • Designing and analyzing energy systems 

    • Working with hydrogen or similar gasses 

    • Mechatronics 

    • Designing enclosures for electromechanical systems
