Job Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Material Planning and Logistics (MP&L) Project Manager is responsible for working with Exteriors divisions to spearhead projects established to drive end-to-end supply chain optimization across the region's operations, delivering measurable improvements in working capital, material flow efficiency, and transportation costs, with the goal of improving Magna's overall operational performance. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a solid background in MP&L, and a focus on data analysis and analytics, optimizing process and material flow efficiency, minimizing costs, driving accountability and results, and ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction. This role directly impacts Exteriors' operational excellence and financial performance and requires a strong leader who can work with divisional leadership to transform MP&L operations and build high-performing MP&L teams across multiple facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Optimize Working Capital
Drive substantial reductions in working capital across North American divisions by driving PFEP development and its alignment to the ERP systems to optimize inventory levels and enhance supply chain efficiency.
Lead Material Flow and Logistics Strategy
Lead strategic initiatives with the divisions to improve internal material flow and conveyance, implement advanced storage solutions, and streamline internal and external transportation networks.
Improve MP&L Performance
Deliver measurable improvements in Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L) KPIs through driving divisional operational enhancements and accountability.
Execute MP&L Strategies
Execute comprehensive MP&L strategies that align with business objectives and support long-term operational goals.
Lead Cross-Functional Projects
Lead and actively participate in cross-functional divisional teams to execute MP&L-related projects and actions, ensuring collaboration, accountability and positive results.
Enhance Warehouse Operations
Work with divisions to optimize warehouse operations and material handling processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase throughput.
Reduce Logistics Costs
Work with divisions to reduce external transportation and internal material conveyance costs through waste reduction and process improvements.
Implement Global Standards
Roll out global MP&L standards across regional operations to ensure consistency and compliance.
Drive Continuous Improvement
Drive continuous improvement in MP&L processes and KPIs by fostering a culture of operational excellence and accountability to KPI targets and results.
Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Purchasing, Factory of the Future, and IT to support integrated MP&L initiatives in the North American divisions.
Enable Data-Driven Decisions
Drive data-driven decision making through detailed data analysis and KPI tracking.
Report to Senior Leadership
Deliver regular performance reviews and strategic updates to senior leadership, highlighting progress and impact. Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior leadership, detailing KPIs, deliverables, and milestones.
Support Lean Engineering
Provide direction and support to divisions in implementing lean engineering principles and tools to improve MP&L operations.
Capture and Apply Lessons Learned
Capture and apply lessons learned from projects by embedding them into Magna's systems, standards, and processes to drive and sustain continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Practical experience with lean manufacturing concepts and MP&L processes including Plan for Every Part (PFEP), inventory management, demand forecasting, material conveyance, storage, and transportation, and warehouse operations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Warehouse Management (WMS) software, Manufacturing Execution System software (MES), Business Intelligence software (e.g., Power BI), Programming Languages (e.g. SQL, Python)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, assess risk and root cause, and implement improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with a proven track-record of driving accountability and results.

Experience/Certifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in MP&L and/or related functions in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • APICS CPIM (Certified in Planning and Inventory Management) certification and Lean Bronze or Silver Certification through the Lean Certification Alliance (SME, AME, Shingo Institute) are preferred.

Physical Demands/Work Environment - Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office and/or manufacturing environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Requires local, domestic, and international travel.
