Role Overview
As a Revenue Recognition Senior Manager at Varian, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our financial operations, by leading a global team of 6 members. Your responsibilities include, but not limited to,
- Implementing, governing, and safeguarding Varian controls.
- Evaluating actions required for compliance with the company’s revenue recognition accounting standards (IFRS 15).
- Integrating, standardizing, and continuously enhancing reporting processes related to Order Intake, Revenue, and backlog globally with the use of digitalization tools.
- Regular and ad-hoc analysis ensuring order reporting accuracy and compliant revenue recognition.
- Analysis of contractual terms or other customer facing formal agreements to identify potential accounting impacts including the evaluation of new business models.
- Completes all required month-end close activities including revenue reconciliation and management reporting.
- Partners with regional finance, legal, sales, and strategic marketing personnel in varying aspects including contract structures, new product introductions, and alignment & adherence to company policies and collaboratively resolving any revenue issues.
- Follows control procedures and interacts with internal and external audit or other functions in the calculation and approval of standalone selling prices.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Driving Excellence: Lead the charge in improving, harmonizing, standardizing, and ensuring compliance and accuracy in key accounting processes globally.
- People Management: Engage, inspire and provide strong development support for the direct team according to their knowledge and skills.
- Championing Innovation: Drive the implementation of new processes, best practices and changes globally in order management and backlog reporting. Digitalize.
- Guiding the Way: As a key working partner of business teams & other finance teams (including Strategic Marketing – product commercialization, Sales, IT and Finance), to provide accounting guidance in terms of revenue recognition for new deals/new business models/new business projects. Partnering with the regional teams, to define & perform necessary before- and-after- fact reviews & checks to ensure the revenue booking quality
- Expert Counsel: To monitor the IFRS (SHS FRG) updates & changes in terms of revenue recognition and ensure the regional teams are well communicated and trained as needed
- Ensuring Accuracy: Manage and operate controls over world-wide order booking and review process as well as order and revenue backlog reporting, initiate corrections with local accounting teams, and prepare related documentation.
- Precision Review: To be responsible for contract and order reviews
- Data Insight: Prepare and review regular and ad-hoc financial analysis and reports.
- Audit Excellence: Ensure local revenue recognition policies and procedures are consistent with the Varian global standards; Global owner of Revenue Recognition, to ensure the control documents are refreshed & updated, and support the audits as well as external audits as needed
Core Requirements
- Seasoned Expertise: A minimum of 12 years of experience in accounting and finance, with hands-on experience in Revenue Recognition.
- Educational Foundation: A degree in accounting or finance.
- Language Mastery: Fluent in English, both written and oral.
- Software Proficiency: Experienced in applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Analytical Mindset: Possess an analytical and problem-solving orientation, with a natural curiosity about business issues, drivers, and solutions.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Leadership Ability: Capability to lead discussions with accounting and non-accounting teams. Management experience or supervisory equivalent.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of accounting principles and IFRS 15 (or ASC 606).

The base pay range for this position is:
$161,880 - $222,585Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
