This role is part of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Single-Use Technologies Division (SUD) organization. The Sr. Project Manager will support members of the SUD leadership team to provide project management leadership (concept to completion) by fully leading the mechanisms which ensure successful project outcomes. The successful PM is encouraged to provide thought leadership to project workstream leaders & executive sponsors, while demonstrating an eye for the tactical elements of projects. The PM is required to drive projects that may span multiple businesses, functions or regions within Thermo Fisher Scientific. The role supports enterprise projects that require innovative solutioning to addressing business challenges & achieving organizational goals & objectives.

A day in the life
  • Serve as a thought partner to members of the divisional leadership team & help to translate leadership visions into defined objectives & executable plans by fleshing out key ideas, assumptions & projections; ultimately building out the entire vision (prioritization, work plans, timelines, & financial outcomes) for leadership input/approval
  • Own end to end success of project, ensuring accountability, execution timelines & budget accountability to deliver on-time, quantitative and qualitative results
  • Function as a liaison/thought partner between the SUD Leadership Team & various project work stream leaders to ensure business needs have been met & delivered on schedule. Address issues, advancing as necessary, to overcome obstacles
  • Build relationships within the company to successfully complete projects through effective communication with collaborators
  • Identify and handle interdependencies, risks, issues, and actions, facilitating decision-making related to complexities through effective risk management strategies
  • Establish an environment where accountability and continuous improvement are fundamental to the culture

Keys to success:

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in a life science or business-related field, PhD & MBA preferred
  • Project Management certification highly desirable (PMP, Prince2, Agile, etc.)
  • PPI/Lean/Six Sigma Certification a major plus
  • Showed strength in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint & Word
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Outstanding leadership with demonstrated capacity to guide, encourage, and motivate a team, while cultivating an atmosphere of trust and respect
  • Ability to see the big-picture & implement at the grass root level is a desired skill
  • Solution-orientated mentality complemented with a calm voice of reason
  • 10+ years’ experience leading interpersonal level projects; successful completion of sophisticated, cross functional project/program development & delivery
  • Lead project status & alignment reviews while monitoring interdependencies through operating mechanisms
  • Facilitates the creation of project plans & timelines, operating mechanisms, dashboards & financial scorecards for each initiative to keep executive leaders current on progress & potential red flags
  • Able to quickly grasp complex data points, see linkages that span across various areas & synthesize a coherent picture to drive discussions that improve the outcome of the project
  • Able to lead multiple projects simultaneously & seamlessly navigate challenging demands with zero impact to results
  • Must have effective oral & written communication & executive presentation skills and proficient in English
  • Proven organization, analytical, critical thinking, & creative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated can do attitude is a given; needs to be able to run multiple initiatives at the same time
  • Solid track record in handling crisis, issues, process breakdowns, & personnel challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to manage & influence strong leadership personalities while maintaining strong professional bonds
  • Ability to collaborate with all functions within the organization, handling outside consultants, & in-depth know-how of organizational network is a key attribute
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence: High level of emotional intelligence to understand team dynamics and manage interpersonal relationships effectively
