Sr. Global Market Manager (Andover, MA)

Life Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.

Location: Andover, MA, office based 2 days per week

Travel will be part of the role—typically ranging from 25% to 50%— and you should be physically prepared for field engagement and customer-facing activities.

What will you be doing?

As the Senior Global Market Manager, you will report to the Senior Director of Global Marketing and take ownership of strategy, portfolio, and lifecycle management for your assigned product lines. You’ll collaborate with U.S. sales leadership and regional marketing teams to gather market insights, identify unmet needs, and translate them into a cohesive Global Product Strategy. Your role will be central to driving strategic direction and executing product launches. You’ll serve as the marketing lead on cross-functional product development teams and prepare financial analyses and business cases to support innovation and long-term franchise growth. You’ll also help strengthen sales force readiness, gather competitive intelligence, and deliver revenue growth across your product categories.

You’ll develop and execute global marketing plans that incorporate customer insights, competitive intelligence, and evolving surgical techniques. You’ll define launch strategies, training programs, claims, and lifecycle management plans—including new indications and product exit strategies. You’ll prepare and present business cases with financial forecasts, NPVs, and market models to guide resource allocation and evaluate business development opportunities. Working closely with manufacturing and supply teams, you’ll forecast demand, ensure inventory readiness, and support successful market introductions.

You’ll build and maintain strong relationships with surgeons, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and other stakeholders, consolidating their feedback to influence strategy, drive product adoption, and expand market awareness. Maintaining bioskills proficiency will be essential to support education, product training, and field engagement.

You’ll also partner with U.S. Commercial and regional marketing teams to deliver downstream programs, training, and initiatives that ensure sales readiness and field success.

What will you need to be successful?

You will need a bachelor’s degree (an MBA is preferred to enhance your strategic and business capabilities), along with:

  • Over 5 years of experience in commercial roles, primarily within the medical device industry

  • At least 3 years of marketing experience

  • Sales experience (a plus and helpful in rounding out your perspective)

In this role, you’ll collaborate frequently with cross-functional teams including Regional and In-Country Marketing, R&D, Sales, Operations, Legal, Finance, Quality, Regulatory, Medical Education, Sales Training, and Compliance. You’ll also engage directly with customers and key opinion leaders (KOLs), helping to shape franchise strategy through their insights.

To succeed, you should bring excellent communication and presentation skills, along with strong proficiency in digital tools, supported by:

  • Strong analytical thinking

  • Financial acumen

A customer-focused mindset, responsiveness, and a proven ability to build strong relationships across internal and external stakeholders will serve you well. You’ll thrive in a matrixed organization and demonstrate:

  • A results-driven approach

  • Professionalism

  • A positive attitude

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
